1.
I have been having problems with Hotmail recently specifically when I request a reset or re advice of my password for a site. Some sites are ok, Amazon, but others including PhotoNet it simply does not happen. I had to use an alternative email account, Yahoo/BT, to get access to PhotoNet.
Has anyone else had this issue? MSN are not falling over themselves to do anything so far.
When I logged on under my other, Yahoo/BT, email account I have also discovered that there are ratings of other photographers in my name but I never made the ratings! Has the account been hacked?
I have been a registered member for some time and think PhotoNet is a great community. I hate to see it being abused by individuals or big organisations such as MSN.

  2. Hi Guys

Thanks for the prompt, and very helpful, replies to my query.

I was on the verge of purchasing a lens and you have saved me from what could have been a problematic purchase.

    Kind regards

    Frank

  3. Thinking of a PC lens for a D200 in preference to using software. Does anyone have any experience/images taken

with a D200 and a Nikon 28mm PC lens (or similar).

Better still has anyone used the new 24mm Nikon PC lens?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  4. I use an Epson Perfection 4870 and scan 6x7 trannies from a Mamiya 7. It only takes about 4 minutes per scan and the quality is amazing (assuming the original is good!).

I also have a Nikon DSLR but will not part with the Mamiya as the quality is far in excess of digital.

Hope that this is helps, good luck.

  5. Try the Mamiya 7. Used prices are very good now and the optics are excellent. They also have a built in meter which is very good. I still carry a meter but don't really need to.

I have two bodies one of which I used with the panoramic adapter.

    Good luck!

  6. Thank you Antonio for having a sense of humour and sharing it with us. I also recall myself in a similar situation years ago when I first started photography.

More recently I did something similar, took the roll out of the camera and accidentally tore off the sealing strip which the Scottish wind swept away. I was left with a roll of film, no tape, and a problem!

    Thanks again

  7. B+W and Heliopan are probably the best round filters available and are multicoated. Some may be single coated I can't quite remember.

Both use Schott glass which is superior to the glass used in other filters hence the price. However, the results with a Mamiya 7 are excellent. Mamiya 7 lens are first class, its best not to skimp on the quality of filters to get the best out of them.

I have always used B+W and Heliopan on my M7 lenses and have always been happy with the results, except when I get it wrong!

Hoya also make good filters which are not as expensive. Some are single coated.

  8. Jay why not try a Seagull TLR? It's cheap n cheerful and will give you an idea of wether you will want to continue MF. The image is not "upside down" but reversed. This is not as big a problem as you might think.

I have used Hasselblads, Mamiya TLR, Mamiya 645 and currently am using a Mamiya 7. All great cameras and lots of other brands are available at very good prices just now on the used market.

    Good luck.

  9. Hi Guys

Thanks for the responses, very much appreciated.

I sent an email query to Delkin and they sent a rapid, and very positive response.

"The shades do have a 2 year guarantee so we can replace the eyecups orpopup parts without a problem."

    Nice one Delkin.

  10. I purchased a Delkin popup shade in March and took it on holiday. The first

time I used my Nikon DSLR the shade came off the camera and I nearly lost it!

A couple of days later on an excursion I lost it again but without noticing it.

The popup is now somewhere in Greece (probably drinking Retsina!).

I put it down to bad luck and in September purchased another. The same thing

happened. In addition, this time the eyepiece came off and I nearly lost it as

well as the screen cover coming off.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

  11. I have exactly the same lens that you have on my Hasselbad 503CX.

The lee filter I have has marked on the reverse (facing the camera body) "Hass60". It fits the lens without any problems.

If it does not have this marking then you have the wrong fitting. If you have the same marking I suggest that you return it to your suuplier as defective.

    Hope this is of help.

  12. I have always allowed both Fuji and Kodak film to be scanned by the carry on machines. NEVER put film in the hold as the x rays they use will fry it!

When the operator see's a lead item in a bag, they simply cranked up the power of the machine to see what is inside. Self defeating.

I travelled from UK to New York (1 x ray), New York to Arizona (2 x rays) and back. I had no problems at all the film was processed ok. However, it was ISO 50 & ISO 64/100 film. You might have problems with 400 speed film.

If you buy the film fresh, simply leave it in the packets, take the receipt as proof of where and when it was purchased.

I have had the experience of a security person searching all my kit twice and demanding I unroll the film! However, the supervisor was a reasonable human being.

Hope this is of some help, have a good trip.

  14. I have taken Medium format (Mamiya) kit to USA, Greece, Turkey etc. Key point is do not put it in the hold unless you are using a Pelican case. Previous poster stated have it well padded etc which I would agree with.

Buy a Peli case to be certain, smaller ones are available and even Greek/Turkish/US/UK baggage handlers cannot break them!

On my last trip to New York I carried on Mamiya rangefinder kit in a Billingham 450 bag and it worked fine.

Hope you enjoy the Big Appple.
