  1. Is it just coincidense or what? I still use my 8-year old Hi8 camera. I bougt with the camera also spare batery (LI-Ion) and used them both evenly. Original batery died after 2 years, while seperately bought batery still works fine.

My guess is there are different class of batery's available. And those shiped with new cameras just won't last long. So I think here you get that info on 2-3 year batery life. But there is surely possible to manufacture Li-Ion batery's to last much longer (I have proof of that, 8 years old Li-Ion batery and stil kicking as new). By the way, spare batery was also unreasonable expensive then, i think it cost me more then 1/4 price of whole camera.

  2. If it's not a reason to buy, changing lenses, then perhaps it would be nice to try Sony F828. If you're first timer in digital photography, you'll get to apriciate sony's color accuracy (up to 50% better with 4color CCD), also Carl Zeiss T* makes difference, not to mention full range of manual settings. And the body is very handy, easy to control, quality design. Not last but also important is it's afordable price.
  3. What you should be careful is SPEED. Don't buy old stock cards. Today is mainstream at leas 40x speed and it costs less than the old ones. I'm using Transcend 45x CF cards and they serve me great. I also tryed Lexar 80x PRO, but didn't get any better results with my Sony F-828. Perhaps it also depends on camera. Anything less then 40x get's obviously slower.

  4. I only hope that you all are comparing to digital RAW format pictures. As we all know, JPEG optimisations and compression takes a great deal of detail (also visible to human eye) away (depending on strength of compression). That's why you can't compare just in MP's (two cameras with identical MP's/lenses can produce very different pictures, depending on quality of JPEG algorytems in use).

  5. $149 is a pretty good way to learn to buy from reputable companies next time.

    I agree 100%!

I never buy from internet, when i need something i go to retail store, look and feel what i get, pay that extra dollar and leave store happy. If anything goes wrong i can go back and get 1-hand help.

You should know that it's much easyer to lie over internet then to look in the customers eye, and if the customer is not blind he usualy suspects if anything is not right...

So for all of you suckers that wants to save few bucks by buying over internet i say this: Stop complaining, sometimes you'll save money, another time you'll loose!

I understand if you buy quantities, in that case you can realy save some money, but if you buy 1 camera and want to save for a beer... ;)

  6. Sony DSC-F828 is the camera for you. It has great IR performance which can be enhanced by addon IR module (about 40$) and most important, you don't have to throw away your CompactFlash cards. They work fine in F828, only drawback is taking mpg movies which can go only 16,6 fps on CF, while it can go 30 fps on Memory Stick PRO.
  7. I heard that it can get ugly on Cannon when card has files on it. It happened to someone when the card was nearly full and it crashes. He lost everything on it. He thought that his camera is bad so he send it in service. He got specific answer. Read the instructions thorougly, there sp. says that you must format the card before use. When he did, then there was no problem anymore.

So like many before me replyed, formating makes the card usable in your camera, it takes few seconds and then you have no worries.

  8. John Falkenstine, you couldn't be more wrong. I really don't get it, what's wrong with you people? Do you really expect that co. like Sony would make xxl series of camera that bad? Stop dreamin' get a life. And don't worry, your Cannon (or whatever you have) will still be no.1 for you and will still do the job.

Now for some background on Sony F828, it's great camera, technologicaly step ahead of ANY other brand on the market. Yes it's brand new tch. and it may not be perfect, but nothing is, is it? But to tell you the truth, with this camera you can get preaty close to perfect. It's like driving a car, if you drive Ferrari for the first time it would be shity in the eyes of professional driver. Photographer must learn his camera. And that takes time and talent (exp. with new prev. not available tch.).

So stop vining, if you're interested, give it a go (chance) and you won't be dissapointed, i know i wasn't.
