    I like this photo. There is an uneasy sense of near vertigo between the (completely generic) foreground and the (historically pregnant and visually iconic) background of the gates. It's almost as though the front of the photo were looking straight down, at the familiar sight of railway ties as they disappear under the train, yet because of the wide angle lens and orientation of the camera, when we look up the background 'seems' to be at a different angle: we are now looking towards the destination.

     

    It's hard to photograph a place like this, I know from experience as well. You really can't even do the atmosphere justice, never mind the historical and human significance. But this is a very good composition which stimulates the viewer. Nice work.
