I agree and hope Canon is listening. I sure hope Paulo with his moronic advice doesn't work for Canon.

If you e-mail Canon support they will give you a list of troubleshooting steps to follow. After following the steps I still had the error which was corrected by a new shutter.
-
My shutter went after about 5,000 snaps on my 300D. It cost me $180.00+ Tax. I doubt this is the norm and I wasn't pleased but I can tell you I'm sure glad to have my camera back and working properly. It was randomly failing and reporting the dreaded ERR 99 which I spent weeks troubleshooting with no luck.
It sucks to replace the shutter but it's a problem that can be easily fixed.

On Photo.net => Click Gallery / Critique Forum / Post a New Request.
You can upload your image there for a critique and opinions.

Wes - Thank you for the pointers. I did shot this RAW so I'll go back and give it a try. I like free stuff best so I'll go get that plug-in and give it a try. I have to agree with you on the kit lens I've had some really great shots with it and when compared side by side with this Tamron lens it does pretty well. I get slightly better contrast with the Tamron...oh and the Tamron sounds cool.
Rafael - Good point. I underexposed (oops! too much) it intentionally so I wouldn't lose the detail in the snow and I also didn't correct it to the proper exposure level on the RAW image so you guys could see it and help me understand what's happening. I can live with it too but I sure like knowing how to correct for it when I don't want it. So with the right exposure, stopping down and cleaning up in PS I'd say this is an optional effect.
Thank you both!

Alistar and Hugh - Thanks for the quick response! What you're telling me makes total sense.
Since this train caught me by surprise I really didn't have time to get organized for the shot and had a shutter speed of 30 and my apture was set to 22. I was working on another shot that required DOF and forgot how my camera was setup. Lucky it turned out:-)
Thanks again!

Thank you all for your quick response. I bought this lens off of e-Bay and wasn't feeling too good about my purchase when it arrived without the lens cap and lens hood. The glass was mint so I didn't send it back.
I'll stop it down the next time I'm in this situation. This shot was taken at f8.
Wes - What's the best method to correct this in Photoshop...shadows/highlights? I'll also check out PTlens too.
Thanks!

Hi All,
I hope you don't mind answering another lens question. This was shot
with my 300D and Tamron 17-35mm F2.8-4 lens & Hoya HMC Super UV
filter.
What's with the dark corners? I don't see it on many of my other
shots with this lens but I do see it here at 17 mm and another of
this same scene at 35 mm. Is this to be expected because of the
snow?
Thanks,

Another thing to check is the "Setting Processing Parameters" pg. 56 of the manual. Maybe your color tone is incorrectly set.
My Rebel doesn't have this problem but my old point and shoot gives everything a yellow cast and it's a problem with the white balance. I have to manually adjust it everytime I turn on the camera. I sure wish it was under warranty.

Most Community College's offer beginner/advanced photography night classes. Why not sign up for a couple of classes and get your feet wet!

I wouldn't be too happy with that answer from Canon. Didn't you just drop a bunch of money on their product? It's too easy to blame Dell or Windows (there is always a smug Mac or Linux user around to help point fingers too)...make Canon prove to you where the problem is. I'm sure your computer was working fine before you tried this install. Here are a couple of things I'd try:
1) Clean the CD with dish soap and warm water. Sometimes it has a film or finger prints that cause read errors. gently dry it with a lint free cloth.
2) I search google and found that the error is generated by the Install Shield Installer application and they have some advice here: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q110740
3) Phone canon back and don't hang up till your happy.

Great work Daniel! I really enjoyed the simplicity of the site.
I'm not a big fan of flash because it is usually overdone with many tricks that get boring. I must say the wiping effect between photos is annoying and sometimes took longer then it took me to view a photo. I liked the last photo in one section and when I went to hit the back arrow it was gone (since I was on the first photo again) so I had to scroll through (wait for wipes) to go back to the last photo for a second look. Lose the wipe effect and keep the back arrow on the first image...who cares which direction someone takes through your images?
Figuring out and finding your menu wasn't difficult but I could see how some may get confused.
Overall - Great photography work, congratulations! Slick website!

Looks like a UFO to me.

I haven't tried it but I'm sure it will not work. Neither the iPod or the camera has the software to transfer the files automagically, they both require a computer. You sould be able to move the pictures from the computer onto your iPod without a problem.
-
You could simply qoute your price and give the "family and friends discount" of 10% or 15%. That way it will always be fair. No confusion.

Try Eric Boutilier-Brown site http://www.evolvingbeauty.com/ he does similar work to what you are describing.
This link http://www.ebb.ns.ca/in.htm click on 'about modeling' and he discusses his process and has copies of the releases he uses.
Good luck!

I just bought a 580EX this past weekend and have been playing with it. So far I've only used the automatic setting and have found the results to be varied. Most of my ceiling bounce shots have been under exposed.
My shot with bright back lighting caused the subject to be very under exposed. I was hoping it would do a nice fill.
I'm not ready to blame the flash unit just yet since my experience level is really low with flashes but I have been considering the same setup with the 420ex as a slave so I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who has experience with this setup.
Any success stories or tips?

He looks like a great kid with an honest face....why mess with that? Suggest some poses that put tension in his body, it will make the picture more interesting. Make him laugh.
Here is a site with some good examples: http://www.jinsey.com/

When I look at this picture my eye is continually drawn to the upper right corner which is empty, I doubt that was intended as your focal point.

What a beautiful woman and baby! Congratulations. I'm sure whatever you put together will thrill her.
My suggestion - since you have mostly posed shots I'd sprinkle the candids between them and have the last photo a posed one of the entire family.
Good luck!

Paul you have a fantastic talent! Keep up the great work. I really enjoyed browsing through your site and I've book marked it for future reference. Congratulations!
-
Melisa - Thanks for the tips, I'm using digital so I won't need to worry about the film.

Any suggestions on taking a warm camera out into the cold? Wouldn't condesation be an issue? Or is it a good idea to keep the camera warm?
Canon's inflated Canadian prices!

Why do I have to pay a whopping $850.00 + EXTRA dollars if I buy a Canon 5D in
Canada instead of the USA? (This is after the currency conversion and including
$300.00 US rebate.)
No one seems to be discussing this issue and when I speak to retailers they
either draw a blank or give me lame reasons. Either way they don't seem
concerned and haven't asked Canon Canada about it.
I really want to shop in Canada and I'll continue to work with the retailers
here to get a better price but if they keep ignoring this issue I'll be more
then happy to have a camera shipped to Canada and if I need warranty work it
would still be cheaper to ship it back to the USA again.
Have any other Canadians raised this issue with Canon or their local retailers?
