    B&W1

          2

Am just playing with converting digital images to B&W with Photoshop for

the first time-also my first real sets of portraits-a steep learning curve! Any

suggestions on how to improve the images (either in terms of composition

or technical aspects) much appreciated. Many thanks!

    Lunar Eclipse

    Jane,

Great set of shots! You managed to capture the changes in the colour really nicely. Looks like you stayed up for the whole event-I only managed to capture up until totality with my own pics (a couple of examples in my pictures), although now wish that I had continued shooting until the end! Well done!

    Andrew.

    Lunar Eclipse

          4

The morning after...more pics from the eclipse last night. A new

arrangement from my first post (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?

photo_id=5673272) that I think perhaps had too much going on. Just

wondered whether people thought this one might have a slightly

better composition. Image is composite of 6 shots, only the last

(full red moon) was slightly adjusted (levels), the rest are

straight out of the camera. Any comments/suggestions/critiques etc.

    much appreciated!

    Andrew.

  1. Thanks for all your comments! It took me a few attempts to get things like shutter speed right (too much and it blurs, not enough and its too dark!) but I think they came out OK. To answer your question Dennis, no filters were used and the images are straight out of the camera without adjusting colours at all.

Glad you liked and thanks again,

    Andrew.

  2. Took a few pics of the Lunar Eclipse this evening-my first attempt!

I had a little play with them and managed to get them in some sort

of order, but not sure about the composition. All of the images are

straight out of the camera (although cropped), no sharpening or

colour adjustments. Any comments greatly appreciated!

    Sri Lankan Mask

          1

Playing with my D70. I quite liked the way the light was coming

through the window to shine on the mask. Am experimenting with spot

metering rather than matrix metering and I quite like the results.

Any suggestions appreciated, especially with respect to exposure and

    framing. Andrew.

    Tired Leopard

    Robert,

Thanks for your comment! Well, I didn't expect ratings would be too high, but then I am always surprised by what gets good ratings and what doesn't--who knows? I find a large bucket of salt normally works quite well where ratings are concerned...!

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Tired Leopard

We managed to spot this Leopard in the Serengeti a little way off

from the road. It had just carried its kill up into the tree, hence

the little nap it was having! I would have liked it to have been a

little sharper and/or larger in the frame, but the distance from the

road made this impossible with my 300mm lense. Any comments or

    auggestions much appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think you are right, the B&W works better. I will have a play with the contrast and levels and see what I can come up with both in the colour and B&W versions. Thanks again!

    Andrew.

    Bird of Prey

Bird of Prey from the shoreline of Lake Nakuru, Kenya. Any

suggestions regarding its identification would be appreciated.

    Comments/suggestions as always gratefully received.

Another shot from our Africa trip-a young Zebra amongst a herd in

Tanzania-a B&W version is in my folder but I'm not sure which I

prefer. Any comments and or suggestions appreciated.

A rather hazardous roadblock, mind you, we were in Tanzania...Any

comments and/or suggestions as always much appreciated. Thanks!

    Lost something...?

Gul, what a fantastic landscape to be able to photograph! I like the addition of the people in the foreground, it helps to portray something of the scale of the terrain they are in...and the title seems to fit just nicely, although I wouldn't want to be trying to find something I'd lost here, might take a little while!

    Regards, Andrew.

Nice shot! For me, yes, you have captured the sense of movement quite nicely! I do agree about the top left being a bit overexposed, but I quite like it! Cheers, Andrew.
  3. Good composition Chris, love the lines running through the picture. I quite like the track marks at the top and bottom, but agree that perhaps it could lose the vegetation at the bottom of the pic. Nice shot! Regards, Andrew.
