Hi all, like many, I am also intending in purchasing a 350D when it
is available in stores. I own a EOS 30E film body but want to venture
into digital area. I have read comments about the 350D and the 20D
but am still unsure about the autofocus of digital SLR being:
1. Acuracy of AF of 350D in comparison to 20D - why is it a concern?
as I will be relying on AF all the time.
2. the ability to AF beyond f8 - why? as I would be shooting
landscapes (as well as portraits).
Can someone confirm these concerns. Thanks all for your time.

Righto, I think I am going to get the 580. After all there more pros than cons. I can't debate about the economic imbalance between the two flashes b/c I don't know the margin behind Canon equiptment in Australia. However, a bit of learning how to use the 580 won't do any harm. Thanks very much guys for your valuable contributions. Cheers

Hi
I am shooting 35mm film with EOS30E and 24-70L + 70-200is. I have a
550EX + ST-E2 that I am very happy with. I was in a photoshop (in
Australia) with an intention to buy another flash light for some
special effects. Both the 550EX and 580EX were on sale for same
value. Should I buy the newer 580EX or settle for the 550? I won't be
shooting digital for quite some time yet. Any suggestions would be
appreciated .. may be a count of votes?

Let me apologise for posting this question on canon SLRs site but if
someone can help it would be fantastic.
I am shooting with an EOS 30 + 70-200 IS + 24-70L lenses. There were
some suggestion that a point and shoot digital camera would be of
advantage to 1. metering 2. evaluation of scene, exposures... I want
to purchase one to 1. use for the aboves (any comments ?) and 2. for
everyday convenient family/party shots. Does anyone know any
comparision test for canon ixus 430/500 vs nikon 5200. I've search
using googles but to no avails. Thanks

I am using NPH400 on my EOS30 with a 70-200 2.8 lens for indoor
(house and church) shots. I am keeping the speed of the film as is
but there are suggestion that I should take it down to another stop
eg. 345 something. What does it do to the final result in term of
sharpness and color, and what's the purpose - say given a situation
when to know to stop it down? Can I do it with normal consumer film
like fuji 400, does a flash (550Ex) come into the equation when
considering stopping down? . Thanks for helping me with the questions.

If I could please tag on to this querry, and bear with me as I am a newie to photography. I understand the use of manual exposure setting when use with a flash. As Greg has pointed out that is try to set 1/60 at f8 and flash will take care of the subject with ETTL. The problem I have is say if I set the exposure at 1/6 @F8, I found that the exposure indicator of the camera was either underexpose or overexpose (ie. left or right of the middle mark). Does this matter? Will I get an underexposed or overexposed photographs? Could you please take me through this. Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys and much appreciated. I was originally thinking of the 14mm but walk away as it limits my usage (or that I don't have the creative touch to use it as much). 16-35L sounds like a logical progression - back to savings. Thanks

I am seeking your advice on what wide angle lens should I be
considering for taking weddings and landscapes. I currently own a 24-
70L and 70-200L IS. I want to experiment with wide angle lens that
suitable for and at the same time giving a interesting perspective to
weddings and landscape photograph. Prime lenses would be great as I
think to carry another zoom such as the 16-35L (?) would be a
struggle but also the hard decision to use which zoom to use for a
perspective between 24mm to 35mm. Prime lens would also be cheaper
than Zoom? Thanks in advance.

Recently I attached a circular polariser on my 24-70L and couln't get
it off the lens then. Eventually I got it off after so many twists
and turns. I have noticed after a few rolls of film that the images
seemed to be a bit softer than before, colour is more saturated and
pinkish, and the focusing is I feel abit off.
Have I done some damage to the lens by turning it to get the
polariser off? Is there a moveable joint between the front part of
the lens and the actual body (the part that protrudes when at wide
angle ie. 24mmm) that can get damaged by my action? can it be fix?
what test should I do to verify any damages? Sorry for lots of
questions but please someone help me out. Thanks

Marc, I am new to flash photography too and was wondering about how to meter the background as you have mentioned. Your photo of Alex looked great. Do you use the camera meter and point it to say an area in the background that best represent the ambient lighting, read the exposure setting, set this reading in M mode and keep it there, then keep shooting, ETTL will do the rest? OR do you use a light meter?
Thanks for your time.

Thank you all for your advices. Thanks for your time also, as I found ppeople on this forum tend to go out of their way to help other fellow shooters. I shall have a go with a roll at least (can't afford more)prior to the wedding. Cheers

Wow, thanks for all your advices. I may be a bit slow but Kimberley advised to meter off the fac - that I understand. But "Puppy Face" (sorry) advised with the +/- exposure settings - Do you point the camera to the dress/tux to meter, then dial in (+/-) the exposure setting, then focus and shoot? Sorry to bother you guys again.

Hi, I am a newie to this forum and photography as I found it
fastinating (particularly when I saw the effects done by many of
great photographers on this forum)... so please bear with me. May I
ask for your advice and experience on how to meter the bride or groom
or both (ie. black and white dress), including the use of flash
(outside and inside). I am lucky to have owned EOS 30e, 24-70 2.8L,
550EX and ST-ET. A brief advice would be much appreciated. I would
love to be able to take my sis' wedding soon.
Oh, another question is: what does a cir polariser filter do to your
photo of people (I understand the effect that darken the sky). Thanks
in anticipation.
