  1. This may have been said somewhere before but....Why not have a waiting period for being able to vote. Say a month and after that month the person will be reviewed to prove they are actually active and not just a duel account waiting for the month to end. Paid members and registered users alike. This in conjunction with some form of identification to register might help a little at least. You'd have to be a pretty hardcore cheater to go through all that. At least I'd be too lazy to go through all that.

I also like the idea of ditching the votes and having more comments going on.

Or we could bring back caning....Just a thought.

  2. I agree that is was nice to have the ratings breakdown. If I have an average of 4.5/4.5 does that mean I have a bunch of 4/4s and 5/5s or a little of everything? I don't mind ratings ranging from 1/1 to 7/7. That way I know if I have gotten a rise out of people or not.
  3. Laurie. I'm not sure if that is correct. My reason is all the photos I've checked have only about 9 out of 25 or so rates counted. If I vote directly from a photographers photo as opposed to the rate recent que and the photographer has requested a critique does my rate count or is it only through the rate recent que?
  4. I'm not the greatest at forming my jumbled thoughts into coherent sentences. So with that said I hope this reads like I'm thinking.

I think every photographer wants his work to cause a reaction and to make the ultimate photo that everyone praises. I do indeed take photos for myself, but I think the only reason to post on the net is for recognition. Whether this is for self esteem reasons or to promote yourself for your art. If you want to help people grow as photographers there is really no reason to post your own photos. This only proves that the advice you are giving comes from someone that may know what they are talking about. Photo magazines and sites are flooded with contests. This is what most people enjoy...competition.

With that said, I'm all for a contest with judges. I would like to see a list of top rated and the reasons for this. Also maybe some critiques on why some photos where not selected and how to improve them. This format is very similar to a couple of photography mags I enjoy.

  5. I've ordered online from adorama about 4 or 5 times in the last couple months. I've never had them try to sell me anything extra or hassle me in any way. Everything has went smooth and I will definately order from them again. Though, I have never ordered anything used from them before.

    Password protect your data

JumpDrive Secure Version 2.0 is the security software that comes pre-

loaded on the JumpDrive Secure allowing you to password protect files

stored on the JumpDrive itself. The security software enables you to

divide your JumpDrive into two different areas, or zones. The public

zone has no password protection and is accessible by anyone using

your JumpDrive. The private zone is password-protected so no one can

open, copy or write files to it without entering the correct

password. With 256-AES encryption we go one step further than just

password protecting your data, we also encrypt it.

Will the encryption that this usb keychain uses degrade picture

quality in any way? I wouldn't want to back up photos just to degrade

them further than they already are. Thanks....Dave

  7. Rick I think you might have talked me into the novatron fun kit. http://www.novatron.com/catalog/kits/k-v240d-2c.html . I still have a few questions about this kit though. With the 240w/s output is that divided among the flashheads? As in 2 lights 120 each or 1 at 160 and 1 at 80. If it is divided can it be divided like the second example? I was also wondering if the flash tubes on them can be replaced? Can't seem to find anything on this. Last but not least, will I need a flash meter or will my in cameras ttl still work? If I do need one is it possible to skip it and just play around until the histogram looks correct?
  8. I'm looking to buy a couple of monolight units. I was thinking of the

versalite J-160. Has a 160 w/s output includes umbrellas and stands.

I shoot mainly small still life and would like to get into small

portraits (mainly head but possibly full body shots). Is 160 w/s x2

enough for what I want? Also, Is versalite even a some what decent

brand? Will it last longer than a couple months? And can someone

please explain how a sync cord works. I know they trigger flash. Is

that from the camera to the light? How do I know which cord I need. I

have a panasonic fz-20. I also have very little money to spend but do

want flash and not tungsten. Thanks.........Dave

  9. I found that if you rate recent like normal the rating goes through. It will load the error page after you rate. After the error page loads hit back and it will reload another photo to rate/critique. Try a couple and then check to see if your rating went through. Worked for me.
