    Male Osprey

David, Hung, Veson, Chris, Linda, thank you for the comments!

Chris, it was 7:46am, this is nest which is close to the 3rd parking lot. The sun was behind me and i was located right next to the water.

Linda, you are definitely too hard on yourself, your osprey's images are FANTASTIC! My settings: Canon 20D, 500mm f4, iso200, 1/1600s, f/6.3, manual exp, partial metering, vertical crop + added some sky at the bottom, no flash, tripod

I find 20D to be a bit slow-focusing for this job.

Very interesting shot Nabeel! The way the multiped hanging on for the branch and the sun is fantastic! Composition is very nice. My only pick are noticeable flash reflections. Did you try to soften your flash with a bounce or some other way?

Ospreys are back to Long Island, NY. This is a male osprey carrying a

half eated fish with him. He would catch a big fish in the morning,

eat the head immediately and then go with it for a few hours taking a

    bite now and then.

Chris, B, thank you for your comments!

Chris, congratulations on your new camera! D200 is a magnificent beast. My friend let me play with his D200 for a week. I spent all my scotch tape and super glue trying to connect Canon lenses to this camera but in vain :) That would be an optimal solution for me-- D200 and Canon's 500mm IS lens.

For this particular shot I put some sunflower seeds on the trunk, and it resulted in some interspecies' conflicts as you can see. The day was quite windy and it added to the fun. I looks as if the towhee tries to mock the cardinal.

I'd like to go there again, let me know if you will decide to drive there on Friday, I'd join you.

Thank you everyone for your comments! Jesse, I am not sure I understand where are the bad pixels you noticed. Chris, glad to hear from you!

    Sandpipers

Jerry, very interesting and lively composition. I love how all the sandpipers are bound to one plane by the land in the shot, but also that they are not static at all, they are more like a moving living organism on this photo. It is amazing that you picked the moment when absolutely every bird here is in focus.
