  1. I was just noting that some people, Bob included, have said that the

most definite feature of the upcoming 300d replacement will be non

hackable firmware. I was just wondering if anyone knows if a digital

device with upgradable firmware can be made non-hackable?

  2. Given that sony produce nikons sensors for dslr's, and this is

probably the most complex aspect of making a dslr, does anyone think

there is a probability of sony entering the market? I know they are

all dominant in the P&S field (in terms of sales at least), but could

they compete with the big two? Fuji seem to do ok, so why not sony?

  3. Hi all, just got the d70 kit and the 50/1.8, which stretched the

budget to the limit, so i cant afford macro leses right now. I was

wondering what kind of magnification i could achieve with the 50

    mounted in reverse?

  4. After moving from compact to prosumer digicams, and expecting an increase in perfomance vis a vis noise at high iso's I found that my sony sdc p10 was no better than the fuji s7000 i got in its place. This is i'm afraid true of any small sensor digital camera. Having gotten sick of this, and the considerable autofocus/shutter lag deficit inherent in digicams, i decided to buy a dslr (D70) , which i should take delivery of on sunday. I advise you to do the same. Of course it is much more expensive than most digicams, but IMHO it will be absolutely worth it. Virually noise free pics at iso 1600, and the added convenience (expense? depending on your point of view) of having interchangeable lenses gives a dslr of any brand a HUGE advantage over ANY digicam.
  5. Look at dpreview.com and you will see a comprehensive review of the S5000 (it recieved only an average rating), S7000 and a preview of the canon. You might also want to do a little research on the Panasonic DMC FZ10 (4MP,12X Leica image stabilized zoom, constant f2.8 throughout the zoom range).
  6. Hi all, I'm pondering purchasing the D70 kit, and given that i'll be

investing in the nikon system i'll expect my lenses to outlive my

camera body. Given that the DX line of lenses are designed for the

DX sensor size, is it a good idea staying away from the kit lens (and

any other DX lens for that matter), given that at some stage in the

future nikon will undoubtedly have an affordable full frame DSLR? Am

I right in assuming that these lenses will become pretty much useless

when this happens, producing something like an 8mm fisheye circle

(without the fisheye effect of course) on 35mm film? Any help is

    much appreciated.
