Thank you for all these answers! PhotoNet does not forward answers to my emails and that is why I am so late in responding. I am pleased that I can work with what I already own. Matt, I appreciate that you posted an image and links.

Has anyone used light stands to create a backdrop stand that holds material? I will use the backdrop for infant portraiture. I already have a hot shoe that screws on to the top and has a hole on the side. I am wondering what kind of cross bar can fit into that hole. Of course I would need a second hot shoe for the other side. I have done some research on kits but would like to use what I already own if possible. Thank you in advance for any answers.

Your image of the water and city looks good. Did you sharpen in PhotoShop? I am trying to decide now whether sharpening enhances black and white scanned negatives or just adds grain.

Thank you for all the responses. I have a book that Blurb printed from a gallery show that I participated in. The black and white images did have a cast and my image looked slightly lighter than what I submitted. I will do one book and take it from there.

Has anyone recently printed a black and white book with Blurb? I want to know if black and white images need to be a bit light. Sometimes a printed piece can come out darker than expected. I am working in Book Smart and will print on premium paper. I use an excellent monitor that is calibrated.
Thank you.

The local Ritz does not have a BP-511A in stock. They recommended Batteries Plus that has two models that fit this camera - one that holds a charge longer. I would prefer the Canon I just need to have a second battery and I am going on a trip soon. (I just bought a 5D as a backup and it will arrive soon.) I don't know if this generic will fit the 5D charger. Anyone have experience with Batteries Plus and this generic? Thanks for reading. I did read the other posts about the best place to get generics.

Try WHCC. Although I have never ordered a canvas print from them they do excellent work.

Thanks Curt. B & H says it sells a universal plug for the charger. I contacted the people at HyperDrive and they said I would need a pin adapter. This is so 120 plug can go into the 220 plug. I am wary because I once plugged a boom box into a pin adapter into a socket in Israel and it blew. It was a simple plug with pins that accepted the American plug but did not have the heavy adapter box.

Has anyone used a Hyperdrive UDMA ColorSpace with an universal plug and a pin adapter for overseas? Did it work fine?

Hi Christopher,
Thanks for your response. My NEC MultiSync LCD 2090 UXi monitor is set at 1600 X 1200, the recommended resolution.

I am using Adobe Contribute CS4 to edit my website. When I load a thumbnail on to my gallery page of the website it looks blurry. The sharpen tool helps but then the picture looks pixelated. I am working in PS CS2. My JPEGs are from black and white negatives, chromes and digital files. Sometimes the thumbnails look OK but often times not and I have to try different photographs to see what works best. I first sized my files at 2" at 72 DPI and then did a Save for Web, 60 - Quality, High, ICC Profile checked, Preset - unamed. I also tried loading a file sized for a gallery at 6.667" and resizing in Contribute. This did not make a difference. I realize there is a great compression of information. Has anyone else had this problem? Here is the link to my page with the thumbnails: http://www.miriamsushman.com/galleries.html
The ones that bother me the most are the 2nd (Alfalfa Knoll Farm) 6th (Israel and Jordan) and 7th (USA) thumbnails. The 7th was scanned from a print and the file size is smaller than my other black and white JPEGs. It looks fine on my site but as a thumbnail it gets pixelated when sharpened. Thank you in advance for any answers.

Thanks for all your answers. I found exactly what I am looking for at archival methods.

Thanks you Jennifer and Randy. You would not believe how long ago I placed an order with them. I look forward to visiting the sites you have listed.

I have tried to order a presentation folio for prints but it has been back ordered from Light Impressions for a long time. Here is what I am looking for http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.com/item.action?itemId=2152
The folio is covered with cloth and the inside in covered with good quality paper. It closes with a velcro tap. Has anyone used something similiar to send prints? Thanks for all replies.

Thanks again for all your help. It is 16:9 ratio. I will do a test. The frames will arrive tomorrow.

-

Thanks for all the responses. So, I should check their specs online to see if it is 16:9 ratio. This is something that I should know what it is but I don't, although I am working with a top of the line monitor.

Thank you Rainer. Does the monitor (frame not included) also measure 7"? Is 95% jpg- quality equal to a level 10 JPEG when saving?

My photographs are going to be displayed on digital photos frames during an event this week. The frame is called Smartparts DPF 70EWI 7". The client has yet to receive the frames so I have not been able to run a test to see what is the proper file size. The client will be taking my images from CDs and loading them onto CF cards. Can anyone recommend a file size that is just right and will not slow down the slide show? I was thinking 700 KB which is 300 DPI at 6 X 4 size. Thank you for your help.

Your idea is fascinating. I think blind subjects will definitely have ideas about how to pose despite never seeing a portrait or themselves in the mirror. I remember seeing a photo essay on a school or perhaps music school for the blind in Egypt by the photojournalist Lori Grinker. This was a photo essay done some time ago. I would like to see the results of your projects.

Thank you for all your reponses. This has been helpful.

You mean the bride and groom sign the contract and you will accept payment from someone else.
-
Hmm, perhaps this is a question for a lawyer and may vary from state to state. Thank you for your answers.
-
This has not happened to me yet but I am wondering if there are any problems with accepting payment from a parent
of the bride or groom. I have been approached in the past by a parent whose child was living in another state and
could not meet me before the wedding. The parents were paying for the wedding. For those who have been in a
similar situation how have you handled this?

Thanks again for all your responses. I have some decisions to make.
