    My neighbor

          1

Should I go with nature or street category? Every once in a while, as

I leave my apartment to go to the office, I am greeted by my neighbor.

I finally was able to capture this snapshot, before he races back to

    his treehouse...

I stitched 6 vertically oriented shots to cover almost 180 degrees.

Istanbul, a city set on two continents (Europe and Asia) is divided by

the beautiful Bosphorus. The images are shot from the Bogazici

University where I spend almost a decade. Here you can see the main

reason why I plan to go back there to teach (if I ever finish my

    dissertation).

    Heart of the city

Please look at the large version of this unusual panorama.

I shot 10 images handheld, trying not to fall from the balcony. Ofcourse people do not care about my project, and kept moving (lol). Alot of cloning required to fix blending people, or missing limbs.

Althouhg people living there might hate the crowds, I miss the city somuch, especially its crowds.

    resting

In the middle of the August, Joshua Tree was almost empty. For a

couple of days, I saw nobody else. It was not as hot as one might

expect, and in the afternoon all the native habitants comeout to play.

  1. Climbing on the classic route of Demirkazik (3756m), september 94. Nota technical route, but with plenty of exposure around 4K meters. Inlate september, day light is short, weather is still warm but notdependable, and winter is just around the corner.

Resurrection Story: In a late afternoon in 94, I placed a cup of hottea on a blank envelope. Later, I figured that all the slides from thelast climb was inside this envelope, still in plastic waiting to beframed. Melted plastic merged with the film, and it was a mess. Inever showed these slides to anybody after this destruction, but Ialso never could throw them away. Years later, in a procrastinatingstate of mind, trying to do something else but my thesis, I sit downto work on this slide. With the help from DICE I manage to get analmost clean scan, and cleaned the rest in PS.

    Days end

After a long day inside the conference center, we head out to our

hotel, tired from all the meetings. It is a week long conference, and

it is started to take its toll. Tired, I am seeing the sky first time

in the last couple of days during daylight.

  2. First, I waited the thunderstorm to pass over the city. After the

first couple of shots (and misses), unfortunatelly the camera run out

of battery, and when I got a new one the storm was too far. This is

the best one I got that night, I am waiting for the next thunderstorm...

  3. Geir, yes it is due to long exposure. Eventhough it is a sunny day, with the IR filter, it was a 4 sec exposure at ISO100. I am shooting with a small p&s (A610) here, so I cannot push the ISO. Thanks for the nice comments Geir, Carole and Paula.
  4. I just love the snowy look the IR images give. Maybe it is just

because I miss a real winter, it does not snow here in Texas !

The original IR image is strongly red (no wonder), I swapped red and

blue channels to get a more familiar deep blue sky.

  5. You might argue that this is the most important painting of the 20th

century, but there is no question that these five women and the

painter still take the viewers breath away. This image is shot using

only natural light and without flash, since although photography is

allowed, flash is forbidden. Unfortunatelly not many people care.
