I've always used the external power supply when cleaning my D100 but I see that I will need to buy another power supply for my recently acquired D2X because they don't appear to be compatible with each other. Hmm.
Rightly or wrongly, I had assumed that because the sensor is active (i.e. has an electric charge) when the shutter is opened with a Bulb setting it essentially becomes a dust-magnet, whereas the mirror-up facility only raises the mirror and does not activate the sensor, thus minimising the static charge. I'd be interested to have that assumption confirmed or refuted before I shell out for another power supply which will only be used for cleaning.

Hi,
I'm trying to create the best profiles I can for an epson4000 using
GMB ProfileMaker5 and ProfileEditor5 with an eye-one spectro. I have
created a set of straight profiles but when I look at the grey curves
in PE I see that there is a very pronounced dog-leg in the curve at
the point where the black starts to be less black (input = 45ish). My
reading of this is that screen values of up to 45 will print only as
black with no tone. If I look at other profiles that come with the
printer there is no such dog-leg and the input/output relationship is
broadly linear.
I have two questions. First, am I doing something wrong or should I
expect this?
Second (and perhaps more important) can anyone point me at a
comprehensive text (or web-site or training course in the UK) where I
can learn more about detailed editing of printer profiles. The GMB
help files are not particularly forthcoming on explaining what to
edit and why, and all the books I can find are at a very general
level.
Thanks

I'm looking into producing fairly large quantities of SRA3 (or Super
A3) prints comprising mostly photographic images but also containing
some text. I currently use both an Epson 2100/2200 and a 1290 so am
familiar with the type of quality obtainable from an inkjet. However,
the cost-per-page and time to print larger quantities makes inkjet
out of the question for this project, while the runs I anticipate do
not really warrant full offset printing.
I know that colour laser printers in the past have produced results
that barely border on mediocre, but I have started to look at higher-
end modern lasers and would like now to tap into this forum's
expertise. In particular, I am looking at the Xerox 7300 (LED
technology) and 7750 (laser technology), which claim interpolated
resolutions of 2400 and 1200 dpi respectively. I have received some
samples from Xerox which look OK (as opposed to "fantastic") but I
would be interested to hear from real photographers rather than
office suppliers trying to sell me their product.
So, in order to avoid rehashing the arguments against low-end colour
lasers, can anyone on this forum report their specific experiences
with these or directly comparable models, with particular attention
to photographic quality compared with, say, an Epson 2100 print?
Thanks

I currently use a 2100 but am also thinking of moving to the 2400. I have two questions. David Simonds reported a Dmax on glossy media of 2.4 I wonder if he or anyone else has measured Dmax on matt paper? I don't get much more than around 1.5 on the 2100 so I would be interested to know if that has improved.
Second, I find that rag papers clog up the 2100 after 3 or 4 sheets and the friction feed starts failing. Does anyhone know whether this problem still there with the 2400?
Thanks a lot
