with 7D out, I think 5DMK2 will see an upgrade later this year. one more thing: the latest clear view LCD II is truly amazing, i think it is the best in the market. among the canon dslr, only the 7d and 1dMKiv have it. I have compared it with the nikon D3s LCD, and I think the Canon's latest LCD is better than Nikon's top model LCD, it is that good. the canon just seems to have a wider color gamut than others, with a warm color tone. as to image quality, I prefer the 5D MKII.

according to a lens retal company, the canon 10-22 has of poor quality construction, so bear that in mind.

why can nikon get its F6 to meter pefectly with its optional split image screen? i am sure it can be done, but they just don't care.

-

thanks all for the contributions.

when i use lens at 1.4 or larger, i find the electronic rangefinder built in is a bit hit or miss, or put it another way, it has a wider tolerence than i like.

i think the F6 solution is the best, there you can get split image screen (nikon's optional screen) working together with electronic rangefinder.

i am really at a loss why nikon can get the meter to work in F6 with split image screen, whereas it refuses users the same options in their high/medium end of DSLR.

for now, i have to resort to bracket focus manually on D700 when using larger aperture, which makes me feel more like a machine gunner than sniper.

the conspiracy theory is that big companies like Nikon and Canon really don't like you using manual focus lens, and would do everything to urge you to upgrade to AF lens. they always design with their wallet in sight, and put user's need second.

digital back for F and F2, and S2/SP if it is not too much to ask. those bodies are well made enough, and unlikely to be made like that ever again, and those lens that go with them are also fine enough. nikon's modern AF lens never impress me that much.

-

I have bought D700 and want to use those manual focus lens. the built in electronic rangefinder is accurate enough, but I still enjoy focus using the tradtional way. i wonder if one can use the screen made for F6 on D700? thank you for your help.

that reminds me of my set, which comes brand new, and with a hair in the focusing window, which appears like a crack. It has been now cleaned. the solms QC sucks. but still, leica still makes the best RF stuff in this world, and priced accordingly of course.

I think F2 is more balanced a camera, better handling too, its metered heads, in all their incarnations, are slimmer too. as to F, I would rather go for S rangerfinder sibling, preferably a SP.

try this.
I am always waiting someone to design one with a rangefinder/meter/6x6 view all rolled into one.

Peter: thanks and appreciate our mutual love for the fine things in life, looking back at the film age, only a few is worth owning.
Nick: I bought it from a friend, whose father bought the camera in 1959. The magazine at the background is indeed a Japanese camera magazine, amazing read.

personally I think 2.8E is the most beautiful 2.8, it is the heaviest when compared with 2.8D and 2.8F. I had a white face 2.8F before, but I just felt the white face is less well/solid constructed as the earlier ones. as said above, it is simply beautiful, and it smells goods too, real leather cover, as opposed to the plastic cover adopted by those late 2.8Fs.

I think I will leave it that way, it has earned it, I must preserve it for the future generations. the stud also appears to be a fixed one, meaning it is not those studs found on one's shirt. I don't think later Rolleiflex 2.8F came with this ribbon.

I recently acquired a never used 2.8E, which comes with the red ribbon, wooden take up spool and sillica
gel capsule. is there a way to remove the ribbon without breaking it?

if the cosina boss now walks into the repair center at solms, having seen so many returned lens and body for calibration, would he want a repeat to his company?
