1. Hi,

I live in Paris and I'm glad you choose to come here even if the city is now expensive (dollar/euro issue ...). I'm a Leica and Bessa R user, I think it's the perfect camera for this city.
My first advice is : try to avoid spending too much time visiting famous places(Montmartre is an awful place, and my mother "lost" her wallet there ;-( ).
Ok for the Eiffel tower an Notre-Dame, but the Montparnasse tower has a great view and the Montparnasse cimetary is very nice.
- Have a walk from Notre-Dame to the Luxembourg Garden (5th area) and eat some japanese food in the "Monsieur le prince" street for lunch.
- The Odeon square and the streets between the Saint Germain Boulvd and the Seine are great for Street Photo.
- Avoid Chatelet-Les Halles, it's crowded and not very safe.
- Have a look near Bastille at the Beaumarchais Boulvd (nickname: 'Photo Boulvd'). Bastille remains a nice place for Street Photo.
- The Louvre is a must, you can buy a ticket, visit for one or two hour, go out and then come back later a night ! The museum opens late on Wednesday and Friday (9h45PM).
- The Orsay Museum which is not far from the Louvre is my second preferred, smaller and often crowded unfortunately, but therefore a great place for people photo !
- La Defense is SO COLD in winter, you'd better go to NYC if you want to see buildings !

    - in Les Tuileries Garden in front of the Louvre, you can visit an outside expo of very nice sculptures.

My post is becoming too long.

Ask me your questions if you want some more advices !

    Enjoy the city !
00AZGp-21087984.jpg.9091f8dc6123a27da7f018fa97054306.jpg

  2. I live in Paris and you would miss something if you don't take a rangefinder or a good point & shoot to catch the mood of the streets, the people and the autumn light (great places on the left bank of the Seine).

Tripods are now allowed unless you choose a very crowded place.

Pick-pockets do exist in Paris especially in Montmartre and Chatelet but I guess they prefer digital SLR or P&S than Hasselblad ....

Have a nice journey in Europe !
