If you got one I'll pay nicely for it.

Mike you're absolutely right - there are always two sides to a story. Alex's post seemed somewhat odd though.
-
Alex I don't get that comment of yours - Eric have posted a number of very good photos in various threads here and in my eyes he has a better eye than many others here (and I'm sorry to say - better than you as well). So your comments is somewhat odd.

I've dealt with Sherry once for a M2 CLA and I could not recommend her work. The wax was a problem for me - but that's just my personal opinion and others may feel that it's ok to have someone slap wax in their cameras (and wax that on my camera in the summer time did NOT stay very 'firm').

Thanks for all the great replies.

The one I have a follow up question is this statement from Harry Geron: The early MR had a locking button that got in the way of the rewind knob on the M3 & M2, but in my view it is easier to use than the later model.

I thought that it was the M4 where the meter started to interfer with some of the parts on the camera and it forced the MR-4 design to come out. Are there different versions of the MR and some of them not fitting very well with M3/M2?

Based on your replies I think I will stick with my small handheld meter but also get an MR(4?) for when I want to use a on-camera meter.

Thanks.

I'm considering getting a 'clip-on' meter for my meter-less Leica.
I've been looking around and so far I've gathered that my three best
options seems to be;

1. Leica MC
Nice and classic looking but the selenium meter and it's accuracy in
lower light worries me. Probably my least favorite option.

2. Leica MR/MR-4
This would be on an M2 so I don't really need the MR-4 and it seems
as if there were no differences in the actual metering functionality
between the two versions - just a change to accomodate the lever on
the 4's. This one I really like as the it's the later CDs cells
(downside of course it that it requires a battery).

3. Voigtlander VC meter
I like the look but there are some functional aspects I'm not so sure
about.

Questions:
A. Does anyone have any experience using the MR meter and got any
words of wisdom on how it actually performs in the field? (For
instance: Does it meter well in lower light, is the fact that it
locks to the shutter speed dial a benefit or a drawback, what about
its size once it is on the camera, etc)?

B. How does the Voigtlander VC clip-on meter work compared to the
Leica MR? My understanding is that the MR you press a button and it
locks in the exposure - and the needle STAYS there until you read
again. The voigtlander meters for 10 seconds (?) and then turns off
and you lose the last reading? I may be wrong on this though.

C. Leica MC.
I would love for this to be an option - a classic, battery-less meter
by Leica - but I have concerns about; metering accuracy in low light,
selenium cells being 'alive' and if its even possible to repair/re-
calibrate these meters anywhere.

Would like to hear from people that have actually used one or both of
these models.

Eduardo, thanks. I'll run a roll through an try out both 1/2 and 1 stop differences. Since it will be b&w I'm tempted to say it won't show much difference but it's good to know that that's the approx compensation to dial in.
Btw - does anyone have any experiences comparing the Leica filters (b&w filters) with more modern ones (B+W, Heliopan, etc) - any notable difference?
Thanks.
-
Lacey, thanks. So I assume the red "1" on the yellow filter means compensate by 1 stop? Will try it out, thanks!
I guess GGr could be something to do with coating... Thanks.

Found a bunch of filters that I've never used before (M-lenses) and I
must admit I don't know HOW to.
Filter 1 - Yellow filter with a red "1" on it.
Filter 2 - Greenish filter with the word "GGr" on it.
Filter 3 - Yellowish filter - but also with the word GGr on it.
All are 39mm filters in silver mountings.
Question: What filter factor does these filters have? For instance -
if using the first filter with the 'red 1' on it - does that filter
out 1 stop of light? And IF so should I set my meter to ISO 50 when
shooting 100 speed film in order to get appropriate readings to
transfer to the camera?
Republican convention shooting...

Dick, your name suits you. You've posted an amazing collection of vendom dripping and moronic comments. Seems like we have 'a Jay' back.
But quite honestly I feel sorry for you.
