  1. unfortunately in an attempt to keep you from "revenge rating" someone who gives your photo

a low rating - they made it possible for people to rate anonymously - it is a fairly recent

change not everyone liked. the down side is that it allows some idiots to play games in the

rating forum by rating people lower than a photo deserves secure in their anonymity.

  2. Nikon View has an editing device that is not as fancy as nikon Capture - but it converts raw to Jpeg or tiff and will even open them up in Photoshop for you if you set it up right. - Nikon View should have come with your camera.
  3. Like everyone else said - formating is a two or three step process on most cameras. I accidentaly formated a card I thought I'd downloaded to my computer already (Luckily nothing I couldn't re-shoot) I took the card to the local camera store and they had the recovery program to retrieve the images. The way he explained it to me formatting on most digital cameras doesn't delete the images - it simply allows you to record over them by removing the overwrite protection - it's the digital equivolent to rewinding a video tape and recording over it. (his explanation not mine so please - if you find the explanation lacking i'd be glad to pass on the name of the store so you can call him and tell him he's an idiot)

the thing is - if you take any more photos on the card it records over memory sectors in the card and you loose photos - SO DO NOTHING - either use the online service suggested or get it to a local camera store.

On my card they were able to pull two images from a year ago despite multiple uses of the card and many many re-formattings over the past year - along with the recent images I was looking for. - Weird

  4. I have to agree with the numerous people who believe this will lead to more abuse ratings by people who will now be secure in the knowledge that giving you a 1-1 to lower an otherwise high average rating will be anonymous. It happened to one of my images almost as soon as the names were taken off. Now i'm not arrogant - It's entirely possible that someone thought an image 18 other people rated highly deserved a 1, however I have no way of asking them, and if it was done to lower the average by someone who wanted to screw with my average anonymously - then mission accomplished.

    I think it's a mistake

  5. What this opens the door to is people leaving unfairly low ratings

on photos that are of subject matter of now interest to them. In

other words if someone is a sports fanatic and doesn't

appreciate floral photography, what would prevent them from

giving florals a rating of 1-1 , secure in the knowledge that the

rating will no longer be traceable to them.

I think this is a mistake that opens up the possibility of more

abuse. At least under the old system you knew if you posted a

low rating just to screw with someones score, you were

    answerable for it.

Maybe I'm too cynical and this wont happen - but I tend to think it

    will.
