E18 - Canon Powershot A70 in Mirrorless Digital Cameras Posted August 13, 2004 Well well well. My Canon A70 is pronounced dead after the dreaded "E18" struck again during my holiday in Scotland. Strange thing this time is when i turned on my camera, when the lens opens there is a LOUD cracking noise (scaring away the wild deer my sister had spotted while on a forest walk) and a burning smell! This happened out of the blue! Dosent sound to good! So i am sending it back to Canon tomorrow, but they seem doubtful that whatever has caused this will be covered by their warranty! As soon as i said the error number the customer serviceman said that i had dropped the camera (which i hadnt) or i had got it wet (kept in a water proof bag at ALL times apart from when taking photos). Dosent sound to hopeful, but they said they will see what the engineer thinks. Searching for this error on Google through up so many other people with the same problem, mostly USA, no british people. I was wondering if anybody roughly knew what the engineer could and the cost in the UK or anywhere else. My camera is still in warranty, but its wheter the camera is covered even though it just malfunctioned with no prior warning! My sister has the Powershot A60 and i am wondering, could this happen to hers! Now, looking away from Canon camera, the Minolta Dimage Z3 looks brilliant!Advice and experiences please,Steve
