1.
Recently I did a job where the client was referred to me by another photographer. It was a very small family event. I feel I should do something in return for the photographer, but wonder if there are any guidelines or suggestions?

  2.
Ouch, what a harsh response, David. Where else are beginners supposed to go for help? This international online forum is the treasure for those of us who can't, for whatever reason, go for prolonged training, or who have good photo skills but are trying to use them, in this economy, to pay our bills. Your answers are always rock solid (you're a moderator of this forum, aren't you?) and your help is invaluable. I, for one, don't know anywhere in my local area that I can go for such good advice as yours. I've asked some 'dumb' questions here, but I'll think twice now.

  3.
Ha ha! Guess what! The bride called me and said "When I googled your name, I found a question you had submitted to your fellow photographers about second wedding prices..." Slightly awkward! She said she was using a budget guide for her wedding which allowed 9% of total cost for pictures, and told me what that was, and asked what I would do for that amount. Obviously, I'm not going to say what that was, but I wanted let y'all know what happened. :-)

  4.
I'm being considered as photographer for an acquaintence's second marriage.
Not quite sure what to charge due to the nature of the wedding (smaller, shorter) and the fact that I know them. (My daughter says, Mom, you're friends with e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e)
My normal fee would be around $1,000-$1,500.
What do you think?

  5.
I have an impact kit with two 24"softboxes. Usually, on almost the lowest setting, the images are way blown out, but today, no matter how I seemed to adjust, they were just dark. Then, just as suddenly, they were way too bright again. I didn't change anything. Really. Am I nuts?

  6.
After you design an album, do you show it to the client before printing?
I usually don't, and the couples have been thrilled with their books, but I just have a suspicion this bride is going to be pickier than most. I'm afraid to show her ahead of time, because I'm outsourcing the design for the first time (Hall Album Design, which I found through photo.net! - they're awesome!) and it's not like I'm doing it myself and can totally revamp the thing over and over. I have two revision opportunities, and I've used one to make changes I saw.
I'm tempted to print it and then present it to her. I never said I'd show them ahead of time. What do you all think?

  7.
Thanks, I haven't checked back in a couple of days due to family illness. I will try moving files without PS, and check the cable. Yes, they are 51meg files, and yes, there are a mess of layers. I did try eliminating any unnecessary or hidden layers, but that didn't seem to help. Did increase the ram to my max available in the PS preferences, and put the slider to 100%. That has helped significantly - most saves less than two minutes. I'll let you know after I follow a few of your suggestions. You're all very knowledgeable, and Helpful, and I'm grateful!

  8.
Yes, it's a 10.5.5 I'm updating a file from the external to the same external hd.
Memory: 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Processor: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
The main drive has 23.71 GB left; the external has 91.56 available. The external hooks directly into a USB on the back of the screen/computer (24" iMac) The plug into the external is not a USB, it's smaller. (sorry to sound childish)
Aha! I looked at the scratch disk for ps, and avaiable RAM is only 978mb, and ps is only allocated to use 65% of that. (but recommended is 538-704 so it's within range) Could that be it? Scratch disk is located on the main drive, which has less space left. Should I have it on the external, with the 91.GB left? I have no second scratch disk allocated, but I could. History levels 500 (just to make sure :-) and cache levels 6.
Looking at the first reply, I must need more RAM, huh. I have 1, not 2 or 4.

  9. Any good ideas for tasteful kids' Christmas pictures? I'm thinking of sitting them (3, under 5yrs) on the

stairway at their Grandma's house, and peering in a downtown shop window. But how about a more studio (simple,

not tacky) shot - white background, maybe... Any opinions? Thanks!
