Hi, I've got an old Gitzo 320 and the rivets are loose again. I was
ambitious enough to change them once, that lasted 9 months. I used
1/8" steel rivets and can't find the next size up in steel so
upsizing may not be an option.
Does anyone have any help to make this repair last longer?
Also, will new bushings really help it have that like-new feel?
Thanks.

Was there Dec last yr. temps ranged from -5 at Bryce Cyn (9000ft elev) to mid 40's daytime. Wind is typical. Snow seemed to be a permanent feature. That -5 was a dry -5 though so in the sun it was really quite warm. Bryce Cyn was snowy but had no other trouble. Crowds were nonexistant. 13 visitors at Capitol Reef the day before I was there. Probably ran into 12 people in Arches.
Dress warm and sleep warm!

My advice as a wildlife biologist is not to worry about black bears too much, but do worry if they don't run when they see you or smell you (which will usually be before you see them). The dangerous ones are accustomed to humans. The wild ones generally aren't dangerous.
The only exceptions to this are the starving ones (dangerous) and the ones in Olympic NP that have SO much food they don't really care about people.
And I wouldn't advise reading the book that Don referred to, it will just scare you, and you won't be able to function in the backcountry for a couple of weeks afterwards. Find another bear book and read that. Trust me I made that mistake ;-)

Richard Ditch brings up another question.
Is the newer TC20e better than the TC301?

Thanks for all the info. I only asked for a personal response because I am a field biologist and am limited to a non web based email account except for about one day out of every two weeks. A CC would have been fine. Thanks

I'm near the area now. A lot of things are open but park staff are at minimum. Any parks/ monuments w/ cliff dwellings are mostly closed. Antelope canyon was closed last time I was here in Dec. The campground in Arches is closed but if camping you can stay right on the Colorado just out of Moab.
Crowds are small to non-existent. Weather is cold to very cold (10 deg. at night so far). Snow could be a travel problem.
Zion is a canyon, light may be a problem depending on the weather.
Have fun. And maybe I'll see you out here.
