I have been reading this forum for about the last month since I learned of
it's existence. What seens very fascinating is the lenses that were made with
the Thorium elements. Were the 35mm concave element SSC lenses the only one
that had the Thorium element? Are there other lenses in the line-up that also
had this element? I shoot Black and White almost exclusively and would very
much like to aquire some of these fine lenses. Thanks,.....Ray

Thanks so much to all of you! I think I will try to contact Mr. Oikawa.

Is there somewhere in cameraland a video for sale that shows a CLA or
adjustment on a Canon EF? I have heard horror stories about alledged repair
persons who have ruined good usable cameras because of there ignorence of how
to properly CLA a Canon EF. I have rebuilt a few Contax and Exakta cameras and
everything works fine. The EF is my favorite camera and I intend to keep it
running for as long as I can. Thanks a lot,....Ray

My first Canon EF was in the serial range #316xxx and it had the split-image screen.

The EF is the way to go.The voltage regulating circuitry allows use of the Alkiline PX625's for less than a dollar a pop! I think the one really great feature is the fact that even without batteries you have a very usable and capable camera. The exposure lock is one of the easiest to use there is. The mechanical shutter speeds in all 3 of mine are within 10% from 1/2 to 1/1000 second. This is pretty darn good for a 30+ year old camera. I really believe that these will be usable and still functioning long after the A series are gone.

I have been thru several Canon cameras and the one that is the easiest to use and does the best job for me is the EF. I don't think a better camera was ever made! If you do find a really nice one, by all means try to get an original manuel so that you can understand just how simple and easy it is to use. I'll drink to that!

Evidently there were several lens offerings in the Super Baldax series. I have 2 of these cameras. One has an Enna Muenchen "Ennit" lens in a Synchro compur shutter, the other is the Schneider Radionar. The Ennit is an F2:8 lens and is very sharp. The one with the Radionar is not working, so I cannot make a comparison. I am guessing the Baldanar may be a Meyer Optic? I have seen a Super Baldax advertised with a Rodenstock Trinar lens. Sorry I can't be of more help.
