I've recently started using an old manual camera of my mother's,
experimenting with orangutan and gorilla portraits. This particular
photo is of Towan. I would like to have some critique of it as a
portrait and not a nature photo! Thank you for your time!

The light and clarity of the little village is amazing against the softness of the hills and fog! It's very beautiful.

Thank you for your input! I'll take that into consideration about film cameras (I hadn't thought about film prices).
One question I do have, though, since I'm not familiar with some terms - what is a "blacktop" photo?

In my short 18 years, I have always loved to take pictures. About 10%
of them turn out nicely, and I've only had experience with point-and-
shoot (I am looking forward to buying a used SLR body and building a
system around it this year). This is one of my favorite photographs,
probably because of its sentimental value. It was taken in the
morning before school a few years ago from the driveway of the house
I've grown up in. Birds were singing, it was probably springtime or
early summer and had been raining recently (what can I say, I live in
the Pacific Northwest).
What I'm getting at is, well, it's amateurish and simple, but is it a
good picture?
