1. i second the thought of the 20-35. 28-135 is not wide enough for landscape, and you

WILL miss the extra wideness in shanghai. if you have $500 to spend, this is what i would

do, get the 20-35 for around $400 and spend the rest on a 50/1.8. make the 20-35 your

primary lens, and the 50/1.8 when you need the lower light and some thing abit longer.

the reason for the 20-35 and 50 combo is that i would much rather have the wider lens

than the longer lens, and having the 28-135IS doesn't give you the low light that you

    might find handy...

  2. well debated/asked question. and here are my 2 cents...

there is a reason that the 12 years old eos 5 used is still commanding the same amount of money as the new eos 7n.i had the 5 for a 5 years, used the 7 on a couple of situations. and this is what i have to offer.

the ECF on the 7 is better than the 5, but i never had all that much trouble with it on the 5 anyway, the only draw back of the 5 ECF is that it doesn't work vertically.

but the 5 have a smaller area (thus more accurate) spot meter, PC connector for external strobes, faster frame rate, better built body, and more custom functions (i think).

and another reason that i dislike the 7, my ex-girl friend had one...

  3. based on what you have (18-55 and 50), and assuming that you are going to keep these two lenses, i would second a previous post and get the 85/1.8 or the 100/2, i own both, and love both equally. the zoom option would be the 28-105 3.5-4.5 USM, great bang for the buck, i had it for a while and it was my too-lazy-to-bring-a-bagful-of-primes lens, from my observation, it's better built than the 18-55.and also the 18-55 lacks the UltraSonic Motor that the 28-105 has. the USM gives you full=time manual focus and faster focusing.i would definitely consider that. also, check out the reviews here at http://www.photo.net/canon/, i find them very helpful.

the following statement is a personal opinion, i would stay with canon lenses. third party lenses have had compatibilty issues with newer bodies, and for some reason i just trust canon a little more.
