1.
Marc,
I have AS v.2 and I'm sure Security will be able to carry your lenses. One word of warning. I was stopped and forced to check in while traveling to Asia. See if smaller International will be able to accommodate your requirements. Security came through without any damage to my gear but it wasn't a pleasant experience checking in my gear.

  2. UD50 is a good choice if you need extra space. I have one. Only problem is that I ended up putting in more than I need most of times. It tends to get way too heavy and my shoulders get sore about a while. I now use it as a transport bag only. My favorite walk around bag is TT Changeup. I have 5D, 24-70L, 16-35L and 70-300DO in there. Depending on the situation I replace one of lenses to 135L. I use as a belt pack with shoulder harness support. I can carry my gear practically all day long without feeling much weight. I use it as a chest pack when I'm in a crowded places. You should give a try when you have a chance.
  3. I have both lenses. I find my copy of 24-70L to be better lens optically.

You have to decide on functionality or pure optical quality. If you want less distortion, better bokeh that f2.8 can give you without going to prime lenses, you can't go wrong with 24-70L. It is an excellent lens that can rival primes.

But I use 24-105L a lot more because it's light, small and has IS. Longer focal range also helps.

  4. I had both lenses for a while. I returned 24-105L and decided to stick with 24-70L. My reason was that when I photograph people, I find 1/30 sec is just about slowest shutter speed I can use without getting blurry subject movements. IS helps to take sharp pictures but people in it move. Most of times even f2.8 isn't fast enough to get me 1/30 sec shutter speed. If I take f4 1/15th, I get blurry subject movements with sharp bakground. 24-105L wasn't for me so it went back.
  5. I will comment on 580EX with 10D and 20D.

    1. I need +2/3 FEC on both cameras for my taste.

    2. 20D seems to have more pleasing WB maybe due to 580EX and 20D E-TTL2 communicating better.

    3. Difficult situations(white bridal gown/black tux) handle differently. On 10D, you need to point focus square to mid tone to get correct exposure but on 20D, I focus and reframe and get correct exposure. Very easy and fast.

    4. Bounced flash is about equal.

    5. Fill flash is more consistant on 20D.

I think best thing about E-TTL2 is that you are no longer tied to focus point to get correct exposure. Focus, reframe and shoot. It's that easy with fairly consistant results.

  6. Sell it if you can get a reasonable offer. Once you get hooked on L color and contrast you won't be happy with 28-135IS rather flat images. Like you I "upgraded" to 24-70L from 28-135IS and never put it back on. Sold it after 3 month of non use. I am keeping 24/2.8 and 50/1.4 primes as one is really small and does not need external flash. And 50/1.4 for low light situations. But I hardly ever use any other lens than 24-70L and 70-200IS these days.
