1. I had recently purchased a used Nikon 105mm F2.8 Micro lens. Out of curiosity, I had used it on my Nikon D7200 DX camera, and taken a few portraits of a friend. These were taken around 8.30 AM in the morning.

This particular shot was at 1/500th with an aperture of F5. I was happy with the result.

It will be nice to receive feedback and advice. Thanks!

  2.
I am planning to go on a trip to Singapore in a week's time. Among other things, I would like to buy a digital SLR for myself. Having been a long time Nikon fan, I would love to try out the new D3100. Here are my questions:
1) I have two lenses (i) AF-D 28-80 - 3.5-5.6 and (ii) AF-D 80-200 - 4.5 - 5.6 (leftovers from my Nikon F90X)
2) I have a Speedlight SB-28 (leftover from Nikon F90X)
Please suggest what I should do, with reference to the followng:
1) How much do the D3100 and D90 cost in Singapore?
2) Is it advisable to go for D90 instead of D3100?
3) If I settle for D3100, should I go for the standard 18-55 and 55-300 lenses or should one Nikkor 18-200 be sufficient/convenient for all purposes?
4) How reliable will the SB-28 be on the D3100/D90 in non TTL auto mode?
Waiting for your kind inputs please,
Sincerely,
Debesh

  3. Thanks for your contributions. This problem was earlier a little erratic. Yes, I have earlier had this problem which seemed to go away with a fresh set of batteries. But, it seems that the batteries do run down very quickly as the problem reappeared within 2/3 rolls.

If anyone could explain whether it could be a shutter problem or some other problem, it will be of help. If you have had any repairs carried out for this, please let me know.

  4. I have been using my Nikon F90X for over 6 years now. However, it seems that a

problem has cropped up. The display shows "Err" and it blinks instead of

displaying the shutter speed and aperture settings. The shutter can be pressed

and the film advances to the next frame. However, the film does not get exposed

at all. Sometimes, the shutter speed and aperture settings are displayed, but,

on pressing the shutter (and having advanced the film by one frame), the display

turns back to "Err". I normally use the subject modes. I have tried M,A,S,P

modes, but these also do not work.

If you have encountered such a problem, please inform me about the nature of the

problem and how it can be overcome.

If it will require an expensive repair, should I go for it or should I go for a

digital SLR like the D200 or the D80 in order to be able to use my existing

    accessories?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. I have been using my F90X for the last four years. I can swear by it. It is so competent that you do not feel the need for an F5. It is good value for your money too. I suppose you will enjoy it for a long time. Happy shooting!
  6. You can try the FIP (Fuji Image Plaza) near Esplanade at Calcutta. I have used their services for several years and they have been fairly consistent with their results. There are many other centres at Calcutta.

I had been to Kathmandu for a trip in 1998 and had got my pictures developed and printed over there. I can say that since Nepal depends on tourism a lot, the quality of photolabs in Kathmandu is comparable to those available at Calcutta, or even better.

I believe you will be using films that will be developed using the C41 process.

  7. Yes, the user interface is an issue with the N70. I have been using the F90X for four years now and I can swear by it. Once you get through the manual, it handles like a dream. The build quality is much better than the N70. If your friend is interested in a second hand camera, the F90X will definitely be a better deal for a little amount of extra money. It will handle better and take a lot more abuse than the N70 can. I know of at least one person who gave up an F5 for the F90X because of the weight factor of the F5. He is not unhappy with his decision.
  8. Thank you all for the quick response! David, I am not going to give up my F90X, no way! I believe that whenever there is any major change in technology, a debate like this opens up. This must have happened when there was a shift to color photographs (purists must have been horrified, though I was too young to understand then). Later, I remember the times when automatic vs manual and autofocus vs manual focus debates went on. Yes, even today the ability to "see" in monochrome is an art. Similarly, I am sure that the film cameras will survive the test of time.

Please also tell me whether my Nikkor D 28-80 will be too narrow at the lower end. In that case, should I consider the AF S 18-70?

  9. Thanks, Steve. You have really given an exhaustive answer to my query regarding the computer system. I now have a fairly good idea of what sort of system will be required to take care of my kind of job.

However, will anyone please tell me what can my existing SB-28 do for the D70? If the TTL will not work, then can the flash exposure be controlled for correct exposure through any other mode?

Also, will the Nikkor AF S 18-70 be absolutely essential in case I opt for wide angle shots?

  10. I have been using the F90X with Nikkor D type 28-80 and 80-200 lenses

for a few years. At present, I have the SB-28 flash for use with the

camera. I am toying with the idea of adding a D70 to my existing

equipment. However, I have a few questions.

    1) Will it be a good idea to go for the 18-70 lens alongwith the D70?

    I understand that 28-80 means 42-120 for the D70.

    2) Will the SB-28 be ok for most applications? Or for the D70, I

shall have go go for SB-600 or SB-800.

    3) My PC is a five year old P-II/450 with 128 MB of RAM. Will it be

sufficient to handle basic file transfers and editing or I need to

upgrade the PC? I do not intend to manipulate/edit the digital images

a great deal. Do I have to install some expensive software even if I

do not intend to manipulate/edit images extensively?

    4) Which will be a reasonable printer for me? I understand that most

of the inkjets can print 8"x11". What if I want larger prints than

    that?

    Kindly offer your suggestion/advice.
