  1. I just found deal on a used 35 mm F/2 AF-D. The lens is in perfect condition

    cosmetically and optically but the owner says it had the oily blades problem a

    couple of months ago. He had the lens repaired and no problems since.

    What I wonder is what's possibility of the problem repeating. If it repeats, is

    it expensive to fix it? Is there certain solution for this problem? I just want

    to know if this problem is certainly chronic. BTW buying a new one is out of the

    question right now.

  2. If customs, duty fees are not a problem there in Canary Islands, then you can safely buy from BH Photo, Adorama, Cameta or or reputable dealers like those in the US. I live in Turkey and easily made several purchases from those. I also use eBay but that's another thing.
  3. I got a Tokina from ebay about 400$ in perfect condition. Nice lens. Optical performance reminds me the 18-70 kit lens. People talk about CA but I'm not a pro so that does not bother me much. For this price, I think it's a great deal. Haven't used the 10-20, but people say nice things about. Rectilinearity is quite good for such a lens. If you want the widest, that's the choice. Also, I heard it has significant light fall-off in the corners when shot wide open.
  4. The price is 4280 USD excluding VAT here in Turkey. By the way VAT is 18% so that's 5050 USD total. I'm quite surprised to see a price tag that is very close to the US one. I wonder whether a tourist can buy it tax free. That will be a nice price.
  5. I'm looking for a cheap decent macro lens to use with my D70. AF ones

    are expensive for me, therefıre I started looking for a MF one. I

    don't think that metering will be a problem using the histogram. I

    know that current Vivitar products are not quite good. But I found a

    used Vivitar 90/2,5 Series 1. With the adapter it can go to 1:1. Is it

    any good? Heard of 105 f/2.5 but not this one. Any comments on the

    optical quality and value will be aprreciated.

  6. I have a D70 and my wife bought me an Epson R200 as a present. We use

    it as an all-around home printer and I know it's not the best inkjet

    around so we are not looking for pro results in our prints. However,

    I'd like to get the best with what I have. Printer came with only

    three 10*15 cm Epson Premium Glossy papers. The results were quite

    good but now I'm planning to print some A4 sized photos. What's the

    best paper choice for R200? Also, what settings? Do I need any

    additional software for more flexible settings? How can I improve the

    color accuracy ?

  7. <p>No I have not. </p><p>

    Ellis, it makes a lot differences. I have been reading PN for about a year and all of my decisions of photography were made by the help of messages posted by you or others that I respect their experience and knowledge. For now I'm quite satisfied for what I have done and what the PN members recommended. As for trying the lenses. It's not quite possible to do that in Turkey. You try what you buy.</p>

    <p>Sorry if I wasn't explanatory enough. I want a sharp prime to use as an alltime carry-on lens. This will me lightweight kit with the D70. Street photography and casual indoors will be the main asset. </p>

    <p>

    Also, beside the focal length, Sharpness, contrast, AF, distortion etc. are important for a nice lens (if I'm not mistaken) So I'd like to hear your comments about these too.

    </p>

    <p>I hope I have expressed myself correctly. Sorry for the crappy English.</p>

    <p>

    Kindest Regards.<br>

    Emre</p>

  8. <p>After switching to D70, my 50 f/1.8 is no more what we call normal.

    On the other hand I really love what it has become for portrait work.</p>

    <p>The problem is; I need a fast prime to use as a normal lens. Some

    people consider the 35 f/2 as a normal (on full frame), not sure but I

    may be one of them. Actually it's not really required to be exact 35

    or 50 equivalent. But I prefer it to be within the 35-50 mm range.

    There are 3 options (tight budget) 24 or 28 f/2.8 or the 35 f/2. You

    can say that the 24 and 28 are not that fast but f/1.4 versions are

    out of the budget. Also I'm not sure if I will really like the cropped

    wide-ish perspective of the 24. You see, I'm confused.</p>

    <p>Any comments are welcome.</p>

  9. <p>Andrew your response is meaningless. S3 and older S2 are very capable cameras. </p>

    <p>

    And Kari,

    Your problem is about White Balance setting. You can take your chance with the Auto WB setting, if that does not work (possible under mixed lighting situtations) you'll need to try the presets and manual settings. </p>

  10. I have been using this lens for about 6 months. Zoom range is really attractive for film. It is not a f/2.8 fast lens but for the outdoors it's the best you can get for the price. Built quality is nice. I grabbed mine on ebay for $170 (mint). If you stop down a bit it's really sharp and contrasty. In the wide end barrel distortion is evident and focus is a little slower than the Nikkors. But having one lens for 24 wide to 135 tele with nice results is really beautiful. Good light is this lens' best friend.

    PS: It's much better than the Sigma version.

  11. The pictures are not that small actually. You can view them full size with links provided below the pictures. Also, you can see the actual EXIF data.
  12. Currenty I'm using an N80 with Tamron 24-135 and Nikkor 50 f1.8 AF-D

    and pleased with each of my lenses. No need to talk about the 50 and

    also tamron is quite pleasing at around f/8. My question is; I have

    a limited budget. Should I trade in the Tamron for the kit 18-70

    lens ? Is the kit lens better than my Tamron in terms of sharpness,

    contrast and flare? I know that the kit lens is quite wider at the

    low end. But maybe I can live without that for some time. (maybe

    until getting an 18-35 f3.5-4.5) If Tamron stays it will be quite

    long (~200mm) with the crop factor and I may never need anything

    longer again. At the other side 36mm seems a bit "normal". You see

    I'm confused.

  13. I'm using Tamron for about 2 months. Got it from Ebay under 200$. And what i get is a beautiful, real "like-new" lens. Sharpness and contrast is very good (I usually shoot at f/8). At the wide end barrel distortion is evident. AF is slower than my Nikkors. Not a low light lens, but for the price it's a best buy. If u want a faster one, than get the 28-75 f/2.8. We hear good things about it.
  14. Istanbul is a beautiful European city which will surprise you with its modernness as well as virginity where tradition is concerned - meaning you could find a variety of scenery - historical or modern.

    Any time of the day might be best for shooting, depending on where you are. Here are some tips: Sun-set or night time are ideal for shooting the Bosphorus (Maiden Tower, The Bridge etc.). Also, a trip to Sultanahmet would be nice afternoon. Taksim is good for people photography and night life :).
