    Top Fuel Burn Out

          3

I crop a lot of my motorcycle/motorsports photos to 16x9 format on Roadcarvin Magazine. 18x12 prints also work well. I shot the Fram Autolite Nationals on the starting line, there is nothing like fuel cars.

Good job of panning with a slower shutter speed. The blur in the foreground and background is nice and the spokes relay the sense of speed. I would have cropped the bike tighter at the rear, the bikes shadow does not add anything to this image for me.
  1. 1st the dark edges in the first frame distract from the bike. Burning the road is a poor title for this static photo. 2nd photo is cropped too tight for my taste. I do like the DOP and the colors are excellent.

The Aprilia 125 is a great subject and I hope you post more photos of this beautiful motorcycle. Please take some action photos.

Next time try slower shutter speeds. Your photos will have much more impact when the background is blurred and the wheels are not stopped by the fast shutter.
  2. Thank you for your comments.

ISO 200 and f/22. I always shoot motorsports on shutter priority. Depending on how fast the object is moving I like to use 1/125 to 1/500. This was an experiment to see how low a shutter speed could be used and still capture a reasonable image.

  3. Experiment with very slow shutter speed (for motor sports) taken at

1/80th and effective focal length of 270mm (1.6 crop). What do you

think? Thanks in advance for your comments.

This is a very nice photo, It would be better with a slower shutter speed so there were details of speed, like the front rotor.

Great photo. The lighting, DOP and shutter speed are great. The low camera angle makes this photo really interesting. This brings back memories of riding one of these monsters in the late 70's.
