  1. I posted almost two years ago looking for a good ultraportable laptop for photo

editing. I ended up going with dell's 700m, and I've LOVED it but it's getting

old. I don't know that the newer models are quite the same. I've seen comments

that the newer equivalent models don't have quite as nice of a screen for photo

editing. So, I'm curious if anyone has used the m1210 for photo editing.

Otherwise, is anyone else happy with another brand?

-I'd like to stay around or under the 4lb mark, and under 14''.

    -Widescreen

-Durable- doesn't need to be a toughbook, but I put my hands on one of the

smaller Sony's and I was afraid I'd crush it.

  2. I'll have to see how it fits. I can't believe I never thought about this external frame option before. The other reason I like it, is that it can be modular and I can chose what to take off the frame and what's okay to toss on top or under a bus. I also usually pack a seperate small lumbar pack so that when I'm running around during the day and don't want to carry all of my camera gear, I have something to just take a body and a lense in. But I always thought it was silly to carry a bag in a bag.. but the lumbar pack might be able to fit as one of the modular compartments! I'm excited about this.. I just finished 9,000 miles of busrides and have been wracking my brain trying to come up with a solution to my bag problem.

Now i just need a hard case that will hold my laptop, a new pair of hiking boots, and I'm good to go!

  3. Does anyone know of a Pelican-type case with dividers that's about the size of

the 1450 that has room for a 12" laptop in the lid?

I've also been looking for a way to carry the hardcase on my back. I finally

saw a link to GeXar, and it looks ALMOST perfect, but I wish there was more

personal storage. Does anyone know of any other harnesses out there? Or are

there any backpacks with padded hipstraps designed to carry a hardcase?

    Thanks much

  4. This question has been asked a million times, but I still can't find exactly

what I want. Well, I could if I wanted to pay $150 a month at pictage..

I'm looking for a site where I have these features:

-upload my photos so that guests can log in and order.

-I want to set my own price.

-I want the service to take care of the finances and ordering

-I want clients to have the option of ordering personalized cards (I don't

actually know how any of this works in any of the sites- if they design them

right within the site or not)

-and it would be great, but not a criteria, if they could design and order thier

    own coffee table book.

I'm just getting started so I don't have the funds or really the need for

something like pictage, but the features are great. I was going to go with

smugmug, but it doesn't look like they have the greeting card option, which I

think is something I really want.

If someone knows of an affordable magic bullet, I'd love to hear. Thanks!

  5. I'm not sure how to even ask this without confusing myself.

The handheld rule states 1/focal length to prevent camera shake (lets pretend I

have a full frame camera). And in general, you need 1/200 to freeze motion.

Does the requirement to freeze motion change with the focal length of the lens?

    i.e., if I have a 500mm lens, I need 1/500 to prevent camera shake, but do I

also need 1/500 to prevent motion blur? What I'm getting at (I think) is that

with IS, I could now handhold that 500mm lens at 1/200 without shake, but is the

subject going to be blurry from motion?

Ive seen that motion blur depends on the subject's speed across your sensor

(maybe I'm starting from a false premise?). Wouldn't that speed increase with

    the focal length you use?

Thanks for any insight.. this is giving me a headache.

  6. There have been mixed reviews on past posts about LCD screens on

laptops, so not sure if anyone will be able to help me with this.. but

is anyone aware of or happy with an ultraportable laptop (sub 3.5lbs)

for photo editing? I've been checking out Fujitsu, Sony, Toshiba and

a few others, but I don't know what to look for in a screen. If you

don't have any personal experience, would someone be able to tell me

what specs to look for? At the moment I don't care about price (but I

will eventually), but I'm thinking about traveling for a LONG time and

would like to be able to work on my photos along the way.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Oh, I reported it, thanks. It's funny- they take them down and put new ones up the next day. Just as long as people don't get suckered. Unfortunately I'm sure a few will. Just having this posted on the net is good; if you do a search for scams this pops up. Hopefully people will read it!
  8. I think the answer is likely YES, but just in case anyone is

interested.. If you do a search for the EOS 20D on Amazon.com,

you'll see someone selling several for 800 bucks. If you try to put

it in your cart, it won't work. Once you email the seller, they'll

tell you that it was sold, but that you can still buy one through an

escrow company- in NEW ZEALAND. I don't know why i've been so

danged curious about this (I think i was trying to convince myself I

could actually get a D20 for 800 bucks) but I checked the domain

registration for the escrow company (http://www.escrow-nz.com), and

it was registered all of three days ago, and registered to a name

very similar to that of the seller. Now, if i'm crying wolf on a

legit seller, I do apologize, but no idea how your'e supposed to

find out without forking over some serious cash and waiting to get

    ripped off.

I do have one question though, slightly off topic. I saw in another

thread somewhere that you should never click on any links the

scammers send you in an email, but that you should cut and paste

into a browser. I didn't do that. Anyone know if I gave away some

vital stats needed for ID theft?
