1. Although you can protect the image from the right click, there are numerous ways of getting around this.

I'd say either watermark the picture or put up thumbnails instead of full screen pics

  2. Wee-Ming Boon, that looks EXACTLY the same as my dog :)

I considered the EOS1 when I was looking for my current camera. In the end I decided on the EOS5 as most of the 1's looked like they had a hard life and looked very tired. I know the 1's were built to last but some of the ones I looked at had clearly not been looked after. Where as the EOS5's were in better condition and the price was more pleasing.

As others have said I'd consider the EOS3 as well if you can stretch to it.

  3. I was trying to find a 10D and a 28-135 IS lens in Florida in May this year. I walked into a Ritz camera store (in the Florida Mall I think) and the price was about ?15 more expensive than the UK store price. as everything in Florida has 6% sales tax to be added. Crazy.

I waited until I got back and bought it from Jessops instead.

Also, Melissa is correct, B&H don't ship to hotels, only private addresses :(

  4. I want to rent a lens (maybe a 2nd body as well) from Calumet and

I'm wondering what everyone does insurance wise.

I know Calmuet do insurance at 13% of the rental cost with a GBP150

excess but I'm wondering if a seprate policy (annual?) would be a

better idea. I might want to rent some another lens later in the

year which is why I've considered an annual policy.

I've My home insurance does cover single items upto GBP3000 (which

this lens is under) away from the home.

I'm not planning on selling the images, its really just as a test on

the lens and my skills, so there is no commerical aspect.

    Who do you use?

    Thanks Darren

  5. Thanks Mike,

I had not thought about Calumet.

Whilst we are on topic, when you use rented equipment what do you do with regards to insurance? Calumet state that should the equipment get damaged, stolen, lost you pay the full 100% retail price.

  6. Hello,

Does anyone know where I can rent a 300F4 IS or 400 5.6 lens for a

few days in the UK? The lens needs to be in or around London, Sussex

area as I want to take it to a local racetrack.

I've tried Fixation but they only have the 300 2.8 IS and the 400

    2.8.

  7. Thanks again all

    Suman,

I never really expected Canon UK to honour any warranty from Canon US so I failed to see the point of getting a US model when a grey is cheaper.

Puppy Face, Nice review, some very nice pictures as well. I love the pictures at Waikiki. Excellent

Giampiero, Nice pic and thanks for the comments

Bob, Thanks for another glowing review. The main reason I considered the 200 instead of the 300 or 400 was mainly down to size and the fact that I am not 100% if I REALLY NEED a 300mm or 400mm.

I want to start taking pictures of cars and motor sports (track days, rallys etc.) and I'm not sure if a 300mm or larger is required. The reason for this is that my company (Motor Related) are going to try and provide me with a press pass on track days, open days, etc (As an example, my company run the Brans Hatch event every year) which will mean I'm closer to the action that the general public. The fact that the 200mm lens gave me the option to extend between 300mm and 400mm would allow me to evaluate whether I am shooting on the limits of the lens when a Teleconvertor is added. If I do find that I really need a longer prime, then I'll have to ditch the 200 and buy a larger lens (300 F4?).

    Thanks again all

  8. Thanks for the positive responses guys,

Suman, I'm off to Florida in a week :) and Iam already getting a 28-135 lens shipped from B and H in New York to my timeshare in Florida so I might try and tag on the 200mm as well. If I buy a import (non US model) its $619 (£347) which is an insane price for such a highly specd lens.

Dane, I will be mostly using it for motor sports and general sporting photos so Id always be using a 200mm minimum so this lens (along with a 1.4 or 2.0x converter) is ideal. Even with a 2.0x converter thats a 400 F5.6. The 400mm 5.6 prime lens alone costs over £600 so for a little bit less I have effectively two lenses. A 200mm 2.8 and a 400mm 5.6 :)

Rene, Exactly what I wanted to hear

Whilst we are on topic, would it be better to buy a grey import lens or a? Usa model

Im based in the UK so really any fault I have with either lens, I would have to send it to Canon UK and then pay for a fix. Or I suppose I could return it to B and H in the US and then left them deal with Canon US. Any opinions? Im not expecting to get Canon UK to cover the US warranty.

    Many thanks again

    Darren

  9. Hi there,

I've searched through a few different sites (photo.net included) and

there are very few reviews or comments on the Canon 200mm 2.8L lens.

Its an L series lenses and it's compatible with Canon's TC and it

can be bought for under £600.

    There are countless reviews of the 70-200 F2.8, 70-200 F4, 100-400

but very very few if the 200mm F2.8. is there a reason for this?

I'm considering purchasing this lens for the following reasons:

It does not attract much attention (being a small black lens,

instead of a huge white L series lens), its cheap, lightweight,

cheap, its possible to add TC's, uses the same filter size as my 28-

135 IS (when I pick it up), its a fast lens 2.8.

Is it an overlooked jem? Or worth avoiding? I'm just looking for

    opinions on the lens.

    Darren

  10. Cheers Alex,

I have not done and form of photography for about 6 years so I am slowly picking up my skills again.

Most of my photos will be in colour whilst on holiday but I do like the drama associated with black and white pictures so I might have to purchase a Red and Green filter later after I get back.

I have already order a warm-up filter as I really like the effect they give to pictures. What do the polarizer and neutral grad filters do?

    Gordon,

Thanks for the link, Ill have a read. I thought Id looked under the learn menu as well, oh well.

    Alistair,

Im not really sure what I am going to be shooting yet. I suppose I just want to take pictures of everything (like a tourist) and then when my skills have developed again Ill go back to shooting motorsports and cars.

Ill be using an EOS5 with a 28-135IS lens whilst on holiday, I may (funds permitting) purchase a 200mm 2.8 from B & H as they are so cheap considering the exchange £ ->$ rate etc.

All photos will be on Fuji Superior film (unless some recommends something else) ranging from 100 400.

I was concerned about the sand and grit getting into the lens. Can you just confirm that a UV filter protects the lens from grit, send as well as cutting down UV rays etc.

Ive just checked the price of the Circular polarizer. £125.99

    Thanks again all

    Darren

  11. Hi there,

I'm going to Florida (from UK) in a few weeks and was condsidering

packing a few filters to come with me.

Is there a list of which ones do what? in basic terms? I've had a

search around but could not find anything

    Regards

    Darren

  12. I am not sure if my other post got deleted when the forum went down,

I have seared for it but can't find it anywhere. So here it is again:

Not sure if this is the relevant forum but it seems most fitting. I

am coming to Florida in April from the UK. I want to pickup a Canon

28-135 IS lens but the only store I can find that holds this lens is

Ritz in Belz Mall (Wolf Camera I am lead to believe). The price

however is $579. and B and H sell this for $409. The Wolf camera

store is £170 more. Are they any stores in Florida or Daytona that

will sell the 28-135 IS lens for anywhere near the B and H price?

    Many thanks Darren
