Interesting but obvious Photoshop clone job, but this isn't a photo...sorry. It's just not the type of thing I would expect to find on the top photo page. You have some much nicer stuff in the rest of your portfolio, in my view anyway...

It makes it look like the cover of a spiral-bound book if you stare at it long enough,
Nice shot...

And an excellent portfolio...

Thanks Patrick,
I had a 500mm lens with a 1.4x converter, and if you add in the digital 1.5x crop factor, it gives it an equivalent of around 1000mm (if my math is right)...I think this tends to compress the foreground and background a bit, not to mention the eagle is about 3x larger than the gull :-)
-
First of all, thanks for the feedback everyone.
The ending was a (somewhat)positive one for the gull, despite the impending doom. The gull was feeding on salmon carcasses in the river, and apparently the eagle took exception to this...he dove out of the tree I was photographing him in and made a run right at the gull, catching it completely off guard, knocking it over and chasing it off, but for some reason chose not to kill it (I was sure it would). I was told by a wildlife agent at the viewing area that the eagles are so well fed on dead salmon that they accept the other birds until they overstep their bounds, as this one seemed to have done.
Since I was focused on the eagle in the tree, it was just a matter of following his dive and shooting in continuous mode...the next few frames are too far into the shadows and blurred to be of much use.
Sorry if I've disappointed those who were looking for a more tragic outcome :-) Again, thanks to all for the positive comments...

The gull never saw him coming.
All ratings and critiques welcome.

Beautiful model, and nice glow on the facial features, but the blown white dress is a bit of a distraction for me...I would have liked to see some of the detail in it, otherwise excellent.
-
Excellent, getting the wind blowing through his (her?) fur would have been the icing on the cake.
-
Excellent colors and idea, although I think having the moon placed in the right or left third of the sky, rather than centered, would have made the shot more interesting for me...very nice though.

The use of b&w and the composition make the shot, very nice.

A few hundred Snow Geese decide to follow the leader and take off for
the grainfields at the same time. This is a shot of just one small
section of the flock, which covered another 50 yards both left and
right.

I usually shoot at that whenever possible, I think it gives a sharper picture, and with the faster lenses it usually works out. I'll have to try the Sigma 500mm and see how it compares, but I've found a few good used Nikon 500mm (although the older af-s 1 versions, but just as good and almost as fast to focus) for around what the Sigma costs, but they usually get snatched up as soon as they go in the display case. Anyway, more decisions down the road...
Thanks again...

I used f/2.8 to keep up the shutter speed because of the heavy fog/low light, and the fact I was on a moving ferry, so my DOF was lacking a bit...good eye on the sharpening though (no pun).

The lens is excellent, one of Sigma's best, IMO. Although I did get to borrow a friends Nikon 500mm f/4 af-s last week and must say...THAT is a lens! For the price difference though, I'm quite happy with the Sigma...

Critiques welcome as always...

You did very well holding detail in the shadows and highlights, nice composition and subject.
-
Very nice lighting, color and composition. The light falling on the foreground is a nice contrast to the overcast sky. Well done.
