ok ... mac osx ... powerbook g4 ... apple 17" display ... photoshop cs
... eye-one display calibration kit.
i profiled the monitor ... printed 2 images. first - a colorchecker
image from inkjetart.com. second image - flower.
1st colorchecker print looked good, fairly accurate colors - no color
management. 2nd color checker print - using paper profile for ilford
classic pearl - image too warm.
1st flower print - using no color management in ps - not even close
(flat and quite yellow - flower's red)! 2nd flower print - i used a
canned profile for ilford classic pearl. 2 print look pretty good.
so ... it seems as though somewher in my workflow there's a snafu if
sometimes the "no color management" choice looks better than the
paper profile ... is this confusing??
what's your guess???

i have a colleague who shoots hi-rez jpegs and then saves them as tiffs. does this make
any sense?

the i9950 is the European version of the i9900. I have the i9900 and it's a terrific printer

Since we now are unable to lock our checked baggage ... i'd not do it. Even before 9/11
when travelling on American Airlines, I had a checked, locked Pelican case (obviously a
sign of some sort of "gear") and it was opened ... important and costly gear stolen ... and
American Airlines staff made it clear that they do not cover electronics etc ...
Consider shipping Fedex ... everything is insured and trackable!

Calumet Photo in Cambridge is terrific. The staff is knowledgeable and spend a great deal
of time with you answering any and all questions. Highly recommended! For used gear
and various stuff ... EP Levine in the Seaport area.

iView Media Pro .... www.iview-multimedia.com mac and windows versions ...

Has anyone used this combination of their continious ink flow solution and the i9900? If
yes, would you recommend it??
-
I have the i9900 and heartily recommend it as a superb printer. The cost of inks ... yes ...
are high 9-11$ however if you price comparison you'll find good prices. The key is to
calibrate your monitor so you'll reduce the number of "test prints". If you ever printed in a
wet darkroom you'll know there are costs involved and time needed to achieve the best
results. They can be had! Regarding the i9900, you'll always find the new best printers
are released often, yet if you just commit to one and learn the idiocycrisies of it you'll be
pleased. I find the photo magenta and photo cyan are the most often replace inks. With
paper and ink ... for my prints ... I'm at about 1.50 - 3.00 per print. I am using a variety of
papers (none of the Canon ones too pricey for the quality) Ilford and Hahnemuhle are
superb!

Has anyone had any experience with notching out the battery door to allow the cord
from an external battery pack to fit properly withot the use of Gaffer's tape?
-
I placed a metal baking sheet between 2 CRT's and that seemed to eliminate refresh
rate problems and mag. field issues.

Seems as though this thread "went missing" earlier today. The question is ... which of
those 2 lenses would you choose for prtraiture? There were some great answers this
morning .... hopefully more good responses will emerge! THANKS!
I understand the 1.6x affects the lense choice.
