first off i really like the shot. i like the quality of light obtained thru long exposures... and understand that this is not edited. however, the image would have a lot more punch if the contrast levels were adjusted in photoshop.
  1. this is a work in progress with more work needed at the street level

pushing the contrast. my objective is to enhance the patch of light

that shines on the section of the street and play it up against the

    city in shadow. comments please.

  2. i agree with much of what elaine posted. i think that cropping of 1/2 of the black band at the bottom will still provide a nice contrast to the sky (which is great by the way) and still anchor the image. also moving the star/moon to the right of the frame and just a little lower it would ballance out the image nicely.

another interesting idea would be to try a vertical composition with all objects where they are.

    nice clean image though -n

this is a shot of flood water rolling down a 4 lane highway in early evening. most of the ambient light is a street light, color streaking was a passing car. magenta picks up the little light left in the sky.

san francisco.. corner of market and van ness (or very clost too) right? i like the reflection and texture although the image could use a little cleaning up (down side of a scan)

if you really want to play with this...and get into photoshop, you can isolate foreground (pole and wires)and background (sky) into seperate layers. then pull and adjust each as you please. the composition is nice, but the image as a whole could use a little overhaul. (p.s. turn off the date thing)

i like the cold nature of the shot. depicts winter very well. you may concider pulling the levels a little more in some areas to catch sublte highlights in the snow, and add some more subtle variation to the sky. would keep the same feel, but not be as flat. almost looks like a painting. nice job.
