Greg,
You don't say if you have an external flash or just the one on the camera. Google "better beamer". This is an accessory for external flash and can reach out to the extents of a 300mm lens. This would give you the opportunity to use lenses in "lower end". I don't want to discourage you from buying top quality lenses for big bucks, but you might be able to use a EF 75-300 USM, an external flash, and the beamer. Since you do research, try this option.

Thanks for the quick responses, but these are not the one I'm looking for. It's at night and extremely dark, the train does not show at all; only the headlight is lighting up the forest from around a curve coming fron the left. It's in color.

Sorry to ask, but about two months ago a photo was on the forum and I can't
find it anywhere. It was a night time railroad shot with the head light
showing from around a curve. Can anyone direct me to it?
Thanks,
Gordon

I wish to second the above remark. Also, the "Everything Else" Forum does not show up in the drop down menu.
Thanks,

I have to agree with Alec, it's much more than a discount. We pay sales taxes on the original purchase price. This goes to the state, county, and city where we live. When we get our rebate, we have already paid the percentage sales tax (in my case, 7%) on the amount that's being rebated. If it was to give the consumer the benefit of the discount, why not do it up front?

Jim,
Three weeks ago, I traveled from Tulsa to Albany, NY. I carried my large camera bag with one extra lens, camera w/lens attached, batteries, chargers, flash, basically everything plus my meds. No problems. On the small planes it wouldn't fit in the overhead, but I was able to slide it under the seat in front of me. TSA was courteous and quick.
Happy travels!

Sorry to hear your misfortune. You might consider one of the pop-up screen covers such as "Hoodman" or "Delkin". I bought the Delkin one in order to keep my nose print from constantly being on the screen, but it might be a help in your case, since the unit includes a glass plate over the screen. The hood makes it easier to see the screen in the daylight, too. Hope you get it fixed.

I use this bracket and the Canon Off-Camera Shoe Cord 2. It works very nicely.

Mark,
Nice shot. The leopards seem to disagree with your title of the picture, since they're cheetahs. :)

May I join this, as last night I did my first Bulb expo and in the black area is a white dot. It's the same place in all three exposures and in a lens-cap-on exposure. I had heard that "hot" pixels showed color. If the firm ware maps it, what does it do with it, since it shows up in the finished exposure? How does one handle this; get used to it, send it in for repair, or how?

Geoff asked not to start a flame war and the dialog was basically that, except for a few who tried to flame him for asking the question. I thought the dialog was interesting and informative without bashing anyone. Thanks Geoff

Alistair,
Thanks for the info. I didn't doubt your first comment, but it seems so slight compared to other Canon battery grips.

I like it. If you have any EF-S lenses, they will be useful with the 30d. It has heft, which I feel helps in steadying the camera.
-
Thanks, maybe I should ask how far left does the camera with the BG-E2 sit than the camera alone when mounted on a tripod or flash bracket.
-
Can someone tell me how far the tripod mount on the BG-E2 is from the camera's
tripod mount--sideways distance?
Thanks,
Gordon

I wrote to Canon about it just yesterday and the only reason they stated for the "white" color was for show; they didn't mention thermal/reflectance issues.
-
What version of IS is on the current production of these lenses? Is the
tripod caution of turning off the IS applicable to a monopod also?
-
In my use of hotshoe flash units (Canon 420EX & 550EX) I always
cringe a little about carrying them in a bag with the contacts
exposed. So far I've not had any damage, but it still feels
strange. Has any one suffered damage to the contacts of a portable
flash unit? Does anyone sell a cover that would protect them? I
haven't found one if they do.

The instructions for my new digital camera say that 32 degrees F is
the minimum shooting temperature. This is only freezing. Has
anyone had "real world" experiences with shooting in the cold and
what can I expect?

Not an answer, but a question. About the info to click on Admin and Announcements; pardon my ignorance, but I can't find what you're talking about. Please help
-
I apologize all over the place for the erroneous question. What I
meant to ask was compare between EOS 1D MkI (used) and a new EOS 5d.
Now, what would be the considerations disregarding the condition and
price of the 1D Mk I. I hope this is clearer and more meaningful.
-
Disregarding variables (price, condition, etc.) which camera would
serve the needs for usual needs of photographer?

I have the basic Stroboframe "Quickflip" and I didn't like the flash flipping to the bottom either. So I turned the frame around so that the logo faced me, turned around the flash mounting bracket on top and the flash now flips up. It has worked very well for me in this configuration.
