I was amazed at the soft, warm light in the original shot. I have used
a plugin filter for photoshop here. Can anyone guess which one(s)?
What do you think about the tonal range? Did the filter setting cause
a loss of too much visual information in the shadows?

Ok so you have some fantastic eye for shots of beautiful women. But quite frankly your photoshop skills need a lot of work. The light source of the women is clearly different to that of the BG, this makes her look flat and cut out. I would have dropped the brightness of the women a little and maybe tried copying, flipping and using an overlay transparency to create a reflection of her in the water. Or alternatively why not just stage it and get the shot you have tried to create hear.
Love your other work though.

I am a beginner photographer with 6 years experience as a visual
artist: painting and sculpture.
I've had a canon EOS 500 for some time but never really utilised it.
Recently I purchased the talked about EOS 300D REBEL. I've shot this
night time exposure on the 300D with a Canon Ultrasonic 28mm - 105mm
zoom Lense.
This shot is of a float at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardigras 2004 a
few nights ago.
I look forward to your feedback.
