this isn't an answer to your question but one of those portable usb storage devices will do what you want, i have seen them as big as 2.5 gigs which isn't quite as large as a dvd but it will certainly work better.
-
i've been doing the same thing, anyone been to Art Center in Pasadena, i heard it's better than brooks?
-
using rechargeable Nimh batteries willy make the recyle time MUCH faster.

1nrs has a pellicule mirror so you will lose 2/3 of a stop and there is no mirror blackout. you probably won't need 10 fps for a wedding

can any one give me some tips on lighting for a bodyscape? thankyou.
-
thanks everybody, you have been of great help.

I have a few questions regarding working as a wedding assistant, so
I guess I should tell you about myself first.
I'm a 17 year highschool student male who wants to work as an
assistant mainly for the real world working experience and for
prints for my portfolio. My niche has been in skateboard photography
so I am accustomed to shooting with 2 or 3 flashes at a time. Of
course I have experience in other genres of photography such as
portraiture and studio, but none in wedding photography. I am of
young and of athletic build so carrying around equipment should be
no problem, I'm also smart and well mannered.
My gear consists of the following:
Canon eos 1nhs with lenses covering 16mm-135mm.
Yashica mat 124g with fixed 80mm lens.
4 vivitar 285hv's.
Minolta scan dual IV for 35mm work and an Epson 3200 for scanning 6
x 6. I will also be able to develop and print black and white ( 35mm
and 6 x 6).
Now to the questions. What do pro wedding photographers look in an
assistant, are the soley used to carry and setup equipment or used
as another shooter. I am assuming you want a portfolio to review, if
so what kind of images do you want to see. Would you hire someone
like me who is young and has no experience in wedding photography
assuming that their photography skills are up to standards. Would my
gear ( or lack of maybe?) be a factor, or maybe that I shoot film?
Also, how do I go about being hired as an assistant?
i think that's all the questions for now, thankyou in advance.
p.s. If there are any wedding photographers looking for an assistant
in the Philadelphia area, feel free to email me. thanks.

oh ok thanks, i didn't know they were being interpolated, not that i would ever need to scan something at 12800 dpi.
-
i just got a epson 3200 and started scanning some 6x6 negs and 35mm
slides, so far so good. one question though, i scanned (just testing
it out) at the highest resolution which is 12800 dpi, the file comes
out to be 11050 x 16213 and like 500+mbs. Thats a 36 x 54 inch print
at 300 dpi. Can that actually be right or am i missing something
here? Has anyone made a print anywhere near that size with good
results. I have a scandual IV for 35mm stuff and got the epson
mainly for 6 x 6 and was under the impression that dedicated film
scanners offered better quality compared to flatbeds, but my
scandual doesnt create images anywhere near those sizes. thanks.
-
i meant one ISN'T better then the other....
-
so it's narrowed down to the 3200 and the 2450 and that one is consistently better then the other? very interesting, any other suggestions/comments?
-
which one of these scanners will be superior for scanning 6 x 6
black and white negs and color slides. i have a dedicated 35mm
scanner so that is not an issue. I will mostly be using tri-x, tmax,
provia and velvia. i use photoshop for prost processing so the
bundled software shouldn't be much of an issue ( i assume?). thanks.
-
i have the scandual IV, and have had greats results with it. I'v never used a scanner with ICE so i can't compare, but for me atleast dust hasnt been a major problem
-
i always thought people shot slide film then cross processed?
-
this happened to me before with a brand new canon fisheye i bought. whenever the fisheye was on the "bc" would blink, but with my other lens everything worked fine. i took it back to the store and they returned it no problem. also, make sure the gold contacts on the lens and camera are clean.

i am a beginner to Mf like yourself, and i just got a yashica 124g off ebay for about $115(usd). I love it so far and think it is very capable of producing great images. It's fun and easy to use and it syncs at 1/500th. ALso if you end up not liking it, you can easily resell it for what you paid for it...no reason a 30 year old camera would go down in prices now.
-
...maybe not
-
i think pretty much anyone can tell the difference between a pro slr and a consumer model be it canon or nikon. pro models are big, black, and not plastic, consumer models are exactly the opposite. the difference is day and night
-
yes one of the main reasons i got the 124g was because of the 1/500th sync and the price. how come it can sync at that speed but pro slrs can only sync at 1/250th? you said something about a leaf shutter? is it because there is no mirror? also is it safe to touch the focusing screen for cleaning purposes? thanks.

film is film

i just got my yashica 124G and am very pleased with it so far. a
couple questions though, i'm going to be using a vivitar 285HV with
this camera and don't know if i should set the yashica to M or X. i
read soemwhere that M is for old flashes it is causes the flash to
fire a little before the shutter, is this correct? Also, i have
never used a TRL before and wonder if what you see in the focusing
screen is really what you get or is it an inch or so higher? thanks
in advance

sure thing. i bought the a transmitter and two receivers from him and at first they seemed to work ok except for a lot of random fires that im guessing was due to intereference. about three days after i got them one receiver stopped working completely, i didn't drop it or anything. so i talked to joe and wasted time and money by sending it back for a new receiver. i got a "new" reciever that didn't work at all, i double checked everything. i now think he sent me the same reciever i sent him the first time. anyways i send back the reciever and he says it works...yea right. at that time i still had one reciever that worked untill the pc socket came out, keep in mind these are made very cheap out of thin plastic. i tried fixing it myself with no luck. i still have the transmitter and one reciever that i guess would work if i new more about electronics, and i got $80 back out of the $100 total i spent. i have heard of other people who got these and had similar experiences like mine and others who said they dropped it once and it shattered completely.
my conclusion: you may get lucky and get a set that works, but i sure didn't. one good thing is you can return them for your money back like i did. but keep in mind you get what you pay for and these are made very cheaply. good luck
can someone identify this Rolleiflex
