    White-tailed Kite

          10

Very nice capture of these birds.

I have tried over and over to get a decent photo of our local kites in their breeding/hunting grounds....

Unsuccessfully/ having since all but given up on their hunting grounds, due to it being converted into a disc-golf course.. Every time I go back in camo and hide... they get spooked by the golf course users...

Having not been able to get close enough to them to get a decent shot since that, atleast, without risking a major case of poison oak rash by getting into the area of the park that harbors their nests, all I can say is:

    wonderfull!, thanks for sharing.

looks like they are making a go at tarracing, I'd like to read something about this area. Where is that? The lone tree on the ledge would make a wonderfull photo on it's own against the cloudy background.
  1. Take it all in!

Does there need to be a subject in this scene? It is a narrow field of view and even though I don't like the field of view, in my opinion the true subject is the Ambiance. All that is left is to enjoy it. Well done.

fine instrument! and nice photo. Looks like a little lense distortion but that is not distracting much from the whole. Is this light painted?.

you could have passed this off as a fossilized mosquito in amber... I didn't think otherwise till I read the caption. It's interesting.

    Crescent Moon

jack, thats the kind of criticism we need! I just posted some kind of request to that nature on my moon pic, I like this shot because the exposure is good showing details in and out of the light. I don't know how to make an image of the Moon original without it being included in some landscape, after all, It's the moon you know.. it's there all the time!!

Hello, I noticed your comment on my still, just wanted to thank you for contributing. I saw this photo in your folder. I like it mainly for the color and tones, there aren't many details to give away what this really is. We have lots of these plants due to my grandfather starting new ones from clippings. His Front porch is lined from one end to the other with these plants, when they bloom they provide a great photo-opp. Your photo reminded me of the note I made last fall to make more photo's of this using my new camera. Here is a photo I made with my old DX3900.

  2. because I am biased to coastal sunsets I give it a 7/7 and you deserive it but it comes with a little scrutiny that I hope you accept as Kosher advice. This could be at a little wider angle to include more of the clouds on the left and the horizon is slightly dipping on the right side.

This looks like mono-inyo. Maybe if the overcast was a fine mist creaping over the background hills or if you repositioned yourself to show some artistic composition showing some of the tops of those peaks with late afternoon warm light and contrasty shadows, deep saturated earth tones etc.. Other than trying to make it into a work of art, If you want a straight photo of the region, go in plain daylight with polorised filter to help cut haze and really bring out the earth-tones.
  3. I naturally feel like looking away from the glare in this shot. I did rate this abnormally low, sorry. I might have impulsively been abrupt to do so by my natural reaction to look away... Now that I actualy look through the shot I see the trail and how it is isolated with the crepuscular rays through the mist. I actually really like this shot. I returned from a camping trip where this same view was very frequently experienced near the coast, as the fog was burning off. It is just wonderful to see something like this in person. You did a fine job of capturing the event..

    Lost in your eyes

There should be exceptions to the 7/7 rating..

8/10? I think on her right side, or your left? the tuft of hair casts a shadow into the eye that looks somewhat like a shiner, sort of distracting to me. Other then that, this is a wonderful shot.

    Need focus?

I think a flash on the dark side would be a plus to this shot the next time around..

I'm enjoying the comedic aspects, the bird reminds me of a shot of an old cowboy with a bit of straw to knaw on.
