Go for the G . If you spent so much money for the 9000 don't cut the quality because some hundred bug....it really makes a big difference to get the glass holder. Without it you will never know how good 9000 really is
Best regards

If i don't use masks I get newton rings sometimes. I think humidity might be the reason. Here in Barcelona it can be humid sometimes.
With the 2 masks stapled it's very rare that I get Newtons

Yes but this replacement mask are also for the FH-869G???? because everywhere is stated that they are for GR (the rotating holder). The GR seems different to the G so the masks might be different and don't fit on the regular glass holder.

I just purchased a nikon coolscan 9000. With the FH-869G (glas
holder) I get excellent scan. The included holder (without glass are
useless).
I mainly scan 6x4.5 film. If I put only the included mask for 6x4.5
I get sometimes Newton Rings. BUT if I stapple two masks (say the
6x4.5 and the 6x6 mask) I never get newton rings. So it's nearly a
perfect solution.
But to do this means that I can only scan 1,3 and 4 frame. Is it
possible to buy anywere replacement masks for the FH-869G.
Nikon support service told me that the replacement mask FH-869GR are
the same than the FH-869G. I doubt it but does anybody know if they
are the same. They sell in B&H so I would buy inmediately.
thanks in advance

I have the coolscan 9000. And yes whatever you do......BUY the Glass Holders. Without them the scanner is useless. With them it's a great machine. I am extremelly happy with it

I would also say that EGM is the best. But they are expensive.......

I also would like to add my big thank you. Worked perfect on my win 7 64 bits. It's really weird that Nikon is not able to support their users that bough their expensive equipment. Thanks again
