> Do I understand you to be saying that in using this lens, focus is

Stiff focus rings can be found on some CV lenses from time to time. I think it does mainly not depend on the type of lens, but on factory manufacturing tolerances. I had a 2.5/35 Pancake II (from the auction site), which was stiff and focused over infinity. I resold it. Others reported the same problem with that lens, as well as others had no issue with it. OTOH I have absolutely no problems with my CV 4.5/15, 3.5/28 and 1.7/35 which all focus smoothly.
But this does not mean the 1.4/40 Nokton has not been redesigned by Cosina.

I definitely recommend the Leica, with a fast lens, and without flash. It's silent and discreet.
I have been at the wedding of a good friend last year and have shot with a M6, a Summilux 1.4/75mm (inside, during the ceremony in the church) and a 3.5/28 Coplor Skopar (outside). I used Kodak CN400 inside, Ilford FP4 and Kodak Gold 100 outside.
The pro photog was shooting with a Nikon SLR and a huge flash. The camera was so "loud" and the flash so strong, that it was really annoying the ceremony; while I made my shots very discreetly and without flash. The wedding couple later estimated my pics as "better".
The pro photog was impressed by my concept (silent camera, no flash) and told me next wedding he'll carry his M6 with, for the ceremony shots...

Hello,
This is my first post in the MF forum. I have the opportunity to buy
either a Bronica EC-TL (with 40mm Zenzanon, 75mm Nikon, 200mm
Zenzanon, 2x converter) or a Bronica ETRS (with 3 Zenzanons 50mm,
80mm, 150mm, sidegrip, 2 backs, additional TTL viewfinder, polaback)
from a retired photographer in my area. My question is - which one
should I take, which one is more reliable? The price is the same for
each unit.
I've read everything about the EC-TL at cameraquest.com, but couldn't
find either suitable reviews about the ETRS, nor comparisons.
Both equipments are very used, but still ready to shoot with. I have
passed one roll through each camera, the negs were sharp and contrasty.
I liked the ETRS for the size and manageability (especially the grip),
but disliked the fact that the picture in the viewfinder is "gone"
after a shot, and you need to reload before you see anything again. On
the other side, I liked the TTL metering and automatics on the EC-TL
II, the focus handlebar, and the more extreme focal lenghts of the
lenses (40mm and 200mm instead of the ETRS' 50mm and 150mm).
I'm coming from 35mm rangefinder photography (Leica,
Cosina/Voigtlander), and I am a non-professional. The camera would be
used regularly, that means a few rolls a month. I process my negs and
prints myself (old Durst Laborator small-medium-large-format enlarger).
Thanks very much for every advice!

I have a collapsible 50 summicron, freshly CLA'd and recoated by John van Stelten of focalpointlens.com, and I am very pleased with it. Couldn't see a significant difference in sharpness to the newer 50 summicron I owned before.
