  1. Usually diffrent tensions on the two shutter curtains cause this problem in zorki cameras. For example the first screen is released and the second screen follows immediately. There should be an interval between the first and second release. Check curtains tensions and also lubricate or use a little file to SLIGHTLY soften the little pin attached under the shutter release button and spool- lubricate.
  2. hi guys, one of the good things about these cameras is the fact that one can fix them. I fix mine with excellent results. To adjust the K4 RF, you need to remove the front chrome plate. Under the view finder window you will see two little screws holding the viewfinder. Slightly open the two screws - don't need to open it all the way - and set the range to infinity until it locks. Using a small screw driver-try moving the little screws to left and right. There is a two mm playing space. Look in the view finder and then move the little screw to left or right until you see two images merge. Tighten the screws and it is all done. Be careful it might be sensetive, but you will get to know it after a few time. Good luck
  3. Ian, I would like to try Orion15 lens, and that is going to be my next project to look for one. Also, you my find NDX8 too much blocking light, so try NDX2 or NDX4; these should also eliminate the unwanted reflections without changing overall quality of pictures. Jupiter 8 has nice results using NDX4; and J.12 can be used with NDX2. give it a try.
  4. hello Mark, really cleaning a J.8 is a fun activity and if you are technical, it should lead to great results. First of all, don't bother with the cemented part, those are usually clean, dust or moister doesn't go there. It is mainly the front or the rear elements that gather dust and fungus etc.
  5. Frankly, the good thing about these CCCP cameras are that they are fixable. I have never had one CCCP camera that I could not adjust or fix - lasting for ever. They are not only fixable but once you fix them they perform excellent.
  6. I must say that J.8 is one great lens. Aside from its sharpness it has a character too. The price may be not expensive but that has to do with the socialist - none profit oriented - economy which made everyday products for all people and of all background, so everyone could enjoy having it. As a matter of fact this whole notion in addition to say universal education; universal health care system; life time employment etc. were Socialist contribution to our human heritage. Also one must realize that when one pays big bucks for lets say a camera or a lens; psychologically - one feel more professional or let say one better be feeling more professional. I find the challenge is SEEING, equipment is secondary. But if it comes to perfoming I think the jupiter 8 lens can become a potent tool in the hands of a good photographer. Take a look at VUK's photos in some of these forums.
  7. Hi Ian. I also experienced the same phenomenon with my kiev4a when I was using it in bright sun light. After much investigation, I think it has to do with light deflected by the upper shutter hook. When the shutter is set here is a little hook which holds the shutter until it is released. This little steel part is very reflective indeed, since each time one sets the shutter it touches the shutter part and becomes more metalic. I tried putting a little paint on it but it didn't work. I now use a NDX8 filter to block the light when using it outdoors in bright sunny situations. And no problems I noticed after that.<div>009UE8-19621184.jpg.600c0c496d2f05dd6568f6d8cb38c994.jpg</div>
  8. Hello Denis, I may be able to help you a bit. By the way I saw your earlier photos taken with the Kiev 4A and they looked fine. Anyway, it seems your rangefinder is out of adjustment. This happens sometimes. So don't worry it should be easy to fix if you are a technical person. First of all take off the front chrome plate and then look for two little screws under the viewfinder optic. Without a lens- put focus to infinity until it locks, and then slighty losen the two screws mentioned earlier. There is a 2mm space to move the optical part to the left and right. Look in the viewfinder and look at a far away object try moving the optic using the little screws until u see it focused. It may be difficult to start but try several times until it is sure. If you need to focus it up/down u can email me I can explain more. Good Luck<div>009UC9-19619984.jpg.783f25aa11bfb177a1be2715f77ad167.jpg</div>
