I took this with a 30 second exposure about an hour before sunrise.
The arch was exposed using a SB600 flash unit.

Taken in the Badlands...

I wanted to capture the whole length of the waves as they cascaded
down the length of the pier. I stopped down and set shutter to 2
seconds to get the whole length.

It was a windy day and I wanted to capture the wind along with the
last colors of autumn.

Taken in Milwaukee.

I took this one at dusk, originally set it up with symmetrical POV
but decided that accenting the cable which anchors the mast added
some drama to the scene.

I really like this photo, very dramatic, the texture is wonderful. My next step is to go for a large format camera and do B&W scenics. Looking at photos like this reminds me why. Also, thanks for your comments on my "After the Storm" photo. Cheers!

Bill - I was worried about the horizon being right at the halfway point, but with the person intersecting the horizon on the right and the draw of focus going toward the left I thought it would work. Guess it did. Thanks again everyone for the feedback!

I captured this image of a mountain goat just before it dipped below
the peak. It was midday so I put a polarizer on to darken up the
sky a bit and had to guess at the exposure to get the shadows to
show some detail.

I like the composition. The clutter of the city works in this geometric arrangement. It's almost like a circuit board.

Please critique. Thanks

Thank you all for the input! As for the 'house shoes' I thought it added to the mood of relaxation and peace. There's a fishing pole to the lower right of him as well and the reality was that the soldier was just back from Iraq (Fallujah) and this was his first vacation.

The photo is as taken with no manipulation other than a local contrast enhancement and an unsharp mask. Someone else told me the man looks artificially inserted but I think it's because of the brightness of the trees.

This photo was taken right after a huge storm as the sun broke
through the clouds in the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota. I
went with 5 other people including an Army soldier just returned
from Iraq. I thought his pose along with the stark lighting made
for a good photo.

Jim,
I used ISO 800 for this shot. I actually did take two exposures, one right after the other. The stars were a little trickier and I didn't want that slight trail. For the stars, I took a 10 or 15Sec at ISO 1600, lens wide open focused to infinity. Figured I didn't have to worry too much about noise in this case.
