  1. No Shutter lag at all. In fact, if the 5D is set to multiple exposures, it fires so fast, that you'd get two or three exposures before you know it. And that is from the first second that you press the shutter button halfway - response is instant.
  2. Father Christmas delivered my spanking new 5D to me at work today,

but I couldn't play with my new toy untill last night. WOW! I read

the reviews, first impressions and thoughts posted on Photo.Net, and

wondered who'd be right. I was, in purchasing it.

Great feel, look, brilliant viewfinder (on par with my EOS3) and

excellent pics. I'll post a few in a couple of days. Features that

impressed me most apart from the full frame censor : Instant switch-

on, spot metering, large viewfinder and large viewing screen.

If you've wondered about spending the cash, wonder no more. I love

my 10D, but this camera is in a different league. I'l looking

forward to trying every single feature, and seeing what my 17-40 F4

    L should show me.

  3. Hi Bill

I can second what Andrew said. I also have 2 Visatec Solo 800B monolights, and as they are stocked by the Bronclor agent, can readily obtain any accessory I require. They are a bit pricey though. As far as performance goes, they're great for portraiture / glamour work, which is what I do. Color consistent, fast recycling, and fully variable. Have never let me down.

  4. Just mounted a Flash Extender on my 550EX, and WOW! Even though the

550EX has an impressive guide number, fitting the Flash Extender

makes it a loooong distance flash. Wildlife and bird photogs won't

regret purchasing this accessory. Attached a pic of a tree taken in

almost pitch darkness, and it is 150m away!<div>00CQSt-23922884.JPG.49a60ca4147ddebb3f9c256d2e7fd4da.JPG</div>

  5. Hi Melissa

Nah, not a dumb question. Simplest answer though, just make sure you keep continuity through both sets of connectors and also through the extension cable. Once you've cut the original remote controller cable, ensure that each color travels the whole route and ends up with the same color right at the end. Then all will work. Will be a lot easier if you had access to a cheap multimeter... If you're still stuck, let me know ;-)

  6. Have bought a 100m (300 ft) roll of stereo audio cable from my local radio shop, and using the RS-80N3 remote controller with cable cut in half as described earlier and soldering two mini headphone connectors to each end, have been able to trigger my 10D from very far away. Am sure 300ft will be more than far enough, and also confirming that such a distance is possible.
  7. Hi Steve

I've had one for about two years now, and consider it invaluable. All modes work well, as advertised, and you wouldn't need to do a traditional camera timed exposure. Simply set the timer to do an exposure every few seconds, trigger the timer, and smile...

You may find the cord a little short, but very simple to extend it with a male / female mini headphone socket and a headphone extension cable. Somewhere on the forum is a link to precise instructions.

  8. Hi All, I've been reading every posting regarding triggering 550EX

Speedlites in conjunction with strobes and the problems arising from

the pre-flash triggering the strobes prematurely.

Every solution offered was based on finding a way to eliminate the

pre-flash, implying that a wireless setup was the only way to

accomplish this. However, except for the Ikelight optical slave,

others allows the 550EX flashes to fire only once and then lock up.

Which wasn't a solution at all.

I've not seen a post offering the following cheap, simple even if

less elegant solution. I bought a simple device costing very little

that devides my sync cable into 3 different ports. Now I'm firing my

strobes with cable, and my 3 550EX's via ST-E2. Pre-flash is no

longer a problem, manual mode on the EX may or may not be required,

and everything triggers when it must. Metering is a little more

complex, but digital and a little experimentation allows for instant

feedback. Might help others on a tight budget and not worried about

cables, but interested in a solution that works.

  9. I've just purchased my second 550EX and a ST-E2 transmitter, all of

which works great. However, I also have a 430EZ, which I'd like to

use either as a hair light or as a further bounce light. Now I'm a

need some help with achieving this. Can I connect the 430EZ via the

sync terminal, and what sort of cable or interface would that

require. Or is there another way of connecting it to my

    configuration ?
