Not many pics of some clouds and sky would get me to comment but this is very nice. nice composition, nice color, nice tones and the jet trails add a an extra twist. Worth taking and worth posting. Rare for just a bunch of clouds on a blue sky. Well done.

I'm not a hockey fan but I ended up happily taking my grandson to a local game. I really
like this shot. I like the mascots in the dark and the focus of the picture being in the black
expanse to the left, out of the picture. It breaks all the rules. The shirts are even blown out
and it seems to work for me and I'm usually a stickler for throwing away blown out shots.
This is the first hockey game I've taken my camera to. I may post a few more traditional
shots from the game if it seems warranted.

Both the aurora and the clouds they lit up share the stage on this one. Taken Oct 12 2004.

Last night we had some nice northern lights. A few more are at

I'd post more here but the hassle of stripping the resource fork from photoshop files is
too much of a pain. I'd use photo.net a lot more if that wasn't required.

The lights that night didn't get any better than that and you did a good job making the best out of a not-too-dramatic evening. Tonights prediction is similar so we'll see how they do this evening. Locally it was somewhat cloudy during the display.
Well done.

In the bottom center Denali is visible, lit by the Northern Lights themselves. A beautiful
clear night in the mountains. I have more from that night if enough folks are interested in
seeing more, just let me know.

This is a pano from two frames, combining the late sunset, a rising moon, the Northern
Lights and even part of the Big Dipper in the upper left corner. Unmanipulated other than
the stitching.

I like the photograph very much. Very nice composition. Your monitor may need calibration though. It has a significant blue-tinge to it and needs color correction. It's most easily seen in the shadows of the snow, which should not be that blue. that's a minor technical problem. Nice shot. Looks like Alaska.

yes, that's pretty typical green. the long exposure often makes them deeper than your eye might perceive; they probably didn't look quite this bright to the eye, but not dramatically different. Occassionally they are red but green to greenish-blue is the most typical coloration.

star trails always make for a good photo. I'd go out and do similarly from a wire-free vantage point. It's the only thing about this that detracts from it. How long were the exposures?

This is one shot from my first evening....or rather morning... of aurora shooting during the
winter of 2004. The aurora looks almost like a ray coming from the distant mountain.
Seeing three light sources that complimented each other with a patch of formed negative
space was wonderful. Interestingly the moon was 1/2 full, but appears round due to the
long exposure. Very soon this highway will be snow covered and this image will be
impossible to duplicate. These early morning aurora images involved some 40 sleepless
hours and 440 miles of driving so I hope you enjoy them !

The pole on the right is a huge awning/cover that is opened in the summer, I think.

this is just perfect. what was the lighting? shutter speed? How many shots did it take you to get this? my compliments

Technically I suppose this isn't a real moon dog, but it's a nice effect regardless.

the f717, if you can accept the noise, does a great job. On this night it was -35F and nobody had a serious DSLR. Mine was the only point and shoot in a group of 4 that could pull off 30 sec at f2, which is roughly on the money for the Lights.
-
The foreground was photoshopped to remove the colorization from the incandescent light.
I liked the effect.
