The Durham Regional Police walking along the shore of Lake Ontario in
Oshawa, Ontario. Does this photo create a mystery? Does it make you
wonder why they're there? I'd like to know what you're compelled to
think when you see this picture, if you're so inclined.

A picture of the classic Irish 7 course meal. Comments are welcome.

Unfortunately, I find that slides like this lose quite a bit when scanned with my cheap scanner. One day, I'll have to invest in a good slide scanner.

Shot with my 28mm lens at F8 on Fuji Velvia 50, I used my polarizing
filter to make the interesting clouds stand out better. It looks
much more dramatic projected on a 6 foot screen.
Please, if you're going to rate this photo at anything less than 3,
at least have the courtesy to leave some feedback explaining why.

I caught my 4 year old son watching me quietly and captured this
before he had a chance to react or say anything. It's impossible to
get him to pose for a picture or even smile nice, so I have to
capture these opportunities when they happen.

My reason for giving this photograph the scores I have are as follows. I scored it low for originality, because, well, it's another flower picture. It looks like many other flower pictures. Aesthetically, there is no central point of interest, no unusual angles or lighting has been used, it just looks like a bunch of flowers sitting on the table. I might suggest framing a single flower in the bunch and shooting that, or arranging them into a pleasing shape, giving them a better background (the tea cup should go) and shooting them like that. In retrospect, I probably could've graded this photo a little higher for aesthetics because it isn't displeasing to the eye, but once I clicked on 2, the web site took off with my selection and won't let me change it.

The picture is well composed, you framed your subject well, and used a good aperature setting to throw the background out of focus just enough. However, the face is a little dark with shadows (something a fill flash would've helped out with), and there is an unsightly date stamp in the upper right hand corner which has lowered the aesthetics score. It is a very simple, basic head-and-shoulders portrait of a person which lowers your score for originality.
For a beginner, it's excellent work. I hope I was helpful.

It appears that your photoshop trick has stretched the sky, and compressed the lower portion, changing the drop-off curve of the hill and yes, changing the meaning of the picture. I think I would've liked to see the hill drop off the corner of the picture by moving the horizon down, exposing more sky. However, it is still a very nice photograph as it is and worthy of the grades it's received.

No, the horizon is fine...they're just not shooting the fireworks straight up. Instead, they're being shot off at a slight angle. Also, the lights you see in the background are from boats in the lake in behind at various points which are not sitting on the horizon.
Unfortunately, a lot of latitude and detail was lost when I scanned this slide in; when viewed using a slide projector, the horizon is quite clear, and even the smoke clouds are quite prominent (here they can be just made out as a haze). Thanks for the comment!

More blue sky, less brown grass would've improved this photograph. Putting the horizon at 2/3 down the picture would've been just about right.

This looks like a painting

A fill flash filling in the womans face under her hat would've improved this picture.

It's original, I'll give it that.

What the heck is it you're trying to say, Vadim?

Let me start of by saying that this is art...the fine art of erotica. And, I might add, it's done right for a change. I'll never figure out why some people feel compelled to equate it to pornography. I've seen pornography wrongly called erotica, and yes, that certainly isn't art nor is it something I would find desireable; perhaps that's where the confusion comes from.
I have to feel some sympathy for people who find the human body in its natural state offensive. What's worse is people who would censor such an image by cropping or air brushing.
I honestly think it's time for our so-called modern society to get in touch with human sexuality and admit once and for all that it's healthy and natural. Perhaps then we wouldn't have the health problems our modern society has with so many people being overweight.

The Finepix A201 is a cheap point-and-shoot 2 megapixel digital camera with a fix focus 36mm lens. It doesn't have very many "Features," though it does fit nicely in my pocket. Therefore, it's very handy. As for background colour, that's about as colourful as Bird's Creek gets in the month of May.
I do wonder about the low originality scores, especially from people who've given portraits of people and flower pictures high originality scores. There must be a slew of tractor photos I haven't seen on photo.net yet.

I put this photo away for a while, recently pulled it out and was
intrigued by it. I wonder if others find it as intriguing as I do.
