Hello Maestro. I now understand what you are saying. My apologies. It would appear that you are correct, although without my CM with me at the moment I cannot say for sure. From recollection even with my finger held in the half depressed position there is still some movement in the lens when the picture is finally taken. Hence the lag.
I'll check again tonight to make sure. My apologies for the ambiguity!

Yes it can. See Henrik Jacobson's thread from 13 Nov 2004.

Ned,
Given the current weakness of the Dollar (1.93 Dollar = 1 UK pound) a significant saving can still be made. For example an MP (with probably useless US Leica warranty I admit!) can be bought for 2400 dollars or 1240 UK pounds, adding 20% for duty and say 50 UK pounds for shipping, that still represents a saving of 450 UK pounds against the current RRP of 1988 UK pounds in the UK.
-
In theory, all goods over 145 UK pounds are liable to import duty when importing to the UK that is. All this could be about to change though. See this link for details...

... the right film is important too!!
-
To me it's a question of personal preference. I believe it's the lens that counts, and your choice of subject matter of course! My MP is a pleasure to use and feels luxurious, but that's all.

At ?3,298 a piece, I think film will have a future for a while yet!

That is what I meant! Everytime Trevor extols the virtues of the CM I feel better about my own purchase of the camera. IMHO it's beautifully made but is certainly not an all rounder. Few Leicas are. It's a pleasure to use and I'm happy with the results, but it is expensive.
I owned a GR1V but found it always seemed to be in my bag with half a film exposed as I didn't take that many shots at 28mm.
The 35mm P&S market now seems totally marginalised by the digital revolution, but I for one hope to continue with my CM for years to come.
-
Go Trevor, Go!

never said you said it wasn't! :-)

I have found the CM viewfinder quite frustrating. Unless you look dead straight through it the edges tend become obscured, blackened. There appears to be no tolerance at all.
Still a great camera though Cookie Monster!

Hi,
This came up a while ago. Try this thread:

I've always shrugged off the 'threat' from digital, but I have to admit to being a little concerned about the furure for film. I already find it almost impossible to buy ISO100 colour film in shops (in the UK), and B&W is quite rare.
Where do people think we will be re film in say 5 years?

THE MANY FACES OF SAMUEL FOSSO
Tuesday 24 August 2004 8.30pm-9pm (BST); 3.30am-4am (BST)
"Samuel Fosso is one of Africa's most eminent photographers. His photographs are shown all over Europe and America, from the Guggenheim in New York to galleries in Barcelona, Paris and Amsterdam. His art is self-portraiture - appearing as a Martial - Arts Maestro, an African chief and a Japanese Marine. BBC Four travels to Fosso's photography studio in Bangui, Central African Republic, to meet the man behind and in front of the camera."

scheduled for 10pm BST (GMT+1) worth staying up for the repeat. What a life!

... on BBC4 in the UK now! Repeated at 1.40am BST. Part of a
fantastic photography season the beeb is showing all this week.

Try Double Expo, at 88 bd. Beaumarchais. There are a number of camera shops in that area.
-
are you sure he didn't mean the film speed dial on the rear door?
-
I suspect not! As you suggest the photos and description are lifted from cameraquest.com
This is a regular scam.

...also, this thread may assist you further.
Viewfinder flare...new M7 by Joseph Murray. Dated 2 April 2004.
-
Hi Trevor,
Was the body number above or below 2885xxx? I understand M7's with a number higher than this are not as prone to flare. I don't wear glasses so cannot comment generally upon your predicament.

lovely photographs Trevor, especially the last.

There's a whole article on the future digital M7 in the latest LFI, including an interview with Hanns-Peter Cohn, Head of Leica Camera AG, wherein the M digital is also discussed.

Leica Camera Says Banks Partially Terminate Credit Lines
Monday February 21, 10:59 AM EST
SOLMS, Germany (Dow Jones)--Leica Camera AG (LCA.XE) Monday said its creditor banks have partially terminated credit lines for the camera maker.
Following the ad hoc announcement of Leica Camera AG, Solms, of February 17, 2005, stating that the company expects a loss of half of its registered share capital in March 2005, the banks have partially terminated their credit lines.
The remaining lines still cover the current liquidity requirements. The company's board of management has entered into negotiations with the banks on a solution that will carry the Company until the time of its extraordinary general meeting on May 31, 2005, at which capital measures are to be proposed to the shareholders.
