  1. i agree with mitchel, that you could get at least 1600-1800 on ebay. i did a search for finished auctions and no used 28 300s were showing. the cheapest a new one went for was 2100. so if you have excellent feedback (or know someone who does) then you could net at least 1600 (after ebay+paypal fees) for this lens. i have sold several canon lenses and bodies through ebay as ive upgraded and havent been diapointed with any of my sales yet.
  2. if you can afford the 17-40 then you should consider a 28-70 2.8L used. i have been watching them on ebay and they go for about700-750. of course this leaves you a little short on the wide angle side but a fantastic choice to compliment your 70-200.
  3. a canon 20d is no point and shoot! it is a very worthy choice for digital photgraphy that will serve many needs well. the 17-85 IS will give you more flexibility and range for different types of photo opportunities while you grow in your journey and the IS feature is very useful.
  4. absolutely! i just got my 20d a week ago,(upgrade from drebel) and have enjoyed digital slr photography greatly. i use the 28 135 most of the time but use the 18 55 when i want a little wide angle action. i have waited a year to decide what lens i really want and miss. my next purchase will be the 10-22 and then the 70-200 f4. you will probably get the most use and satisfaction from the 17-40, and will soon find that you wont have much use for the 18-55. you cound sell it and buy the 50 1.8 for an even swap.
  5. storms storms and more storms. i live in colorado where spring and fall are a thunderstorm waiting to happen. the key is keeping dry so drive to some of your favorite spots and stay close to your car. also if it snows where you live(?) try using snowy days to go downtown or to look for patches of color. any type of inclimate weather can make for great pictures. light has many, many forms!
  6. get to denver as fast as you can and go to local state parks within 1 hour of denver. castlewood canyon in franktown, roxborough in littleton, eldorado canyon in boulder, red rocks in morrison. dont torture the poor 3 year old (and wife) get here quickly and take your time locally shooting around denver. youll have more time to enjoy scenic locals and there is a bunch of stuff to do to keep the kid happy here in denver. good luck!
  7. i buy and sell on ebay and i can tell you that yes you can get a good deal on used camera equipment. you must buy from someone with near perfect or perfect feedback. i prefer to buy from individuals(its easy to tell who they are) with great feedback ratings because you can usually trust them to be honest.read feedback of prospective sellers especially any neg. email with questions well before auction closes so you have time to get q's answered, and be patient and wait for a good deal from a good dealer! good luck. p.s. im from colorado, enjoy your trip!
  8. going to cancun at the end of september for seven days. i will rent

a jeep for three or four days. willing to drive but only want to do

day trips(all inclusive resort!) have info on 5 or 6 ancient ruins

within 3 hours, what else is worth snapping?

  9. the advantage of using the raw+jpeg is that if you are exposing properly then you will have alot of really good jpeg pictures to sell without the processing required with raw. of course you can process your raw pics for big enlargements and have the large files needed.
  10. i have owned this lens for over a year and shoot mostly scenics and landscapes, but do some of the kids and vacations. i also have the 75-300 IS the 50 1.8 and the 18-55. i use the 28 135 almost all the time and always get good results, IS works perfect and i never use a tripod as i am usually hiking and dont want to slow down for tripod setup. the only problem you might run into is doing interior work the lens is pretty slow. however that is easily overcome by changing iso on my dreb. plus for 350-400 bucks its a great all around IS lens
