  1. Ellis, i have no doubt that it was a user error (not mine but one of the people who were

getting the images off the card for us to process), the p25 was new yesterday and the

other cards images (that we shot at the same time) are very impressive, i think the card

was fine as we had viewed some of the images on the p25 screen quickly on the shoot and

they were all there, talking to my boss after we had left the retouchers he mentioned that

he think he may have seen someone unplug the card without ejecting it from the desktop

    properly.

I have just spoken to someone at the retouchers and they have talked to their tech guys

and are in the process of trying to recover the images

  2. Thanks Fazal, I think sending it to the pros is the right answer. Today has given us a good

lot to think about, the P25 and the h1 are a fantastic pairing and i really enjoyed having a

go with them but its abit scary when somthing like that happens, we were in quite a large

retouching office when it happened and it all got a bit complecated as we worked on 3

seperate computers and had more than one person working on it at once, so we cant

really tell what happened, its a real irritation as well as we had backed up all other angles

with film. i am just hopefull that it doesnt leave the people that i work with less keen on

    the use of the p25.

If anyone could recomend a london based recovery service that could hopefully have it

back to us the same day it would be great.

  3. I am in desperate need of some quick advice, we shot part of an

advertising poster for a major car company today with a hasselblad h1

and the new p25 digi back, when the files were extracted from the cf

cards some how the files from one card were not saved and the card

was empty when we came to attempt to get the files again. i know that

there are some software programs out there to recover data, but have

no idea of who makes the best and if it is compatible with the raw

files of the phase one. please advise me so we are not in alot of

    trouble- thanks in advance

  4. About 2 weeks ago i used my RZ pro 2 and it was fine, picking it up this morning and

starting to focus i realised that at 2 points of of extending the focusing bellows i can feel

that somthing is fubbing and causeing a small rubbing noise and occasionly having its

movement blocked. The other problem is that the fine focus knob is slipping as it turns, it

seems to move the bellows for about 180degrees of a turn and having no effect for the

rest, i cant think that the camera could of been knocked or droped in the last 2 weeks but

it did travel in a car un protected as the blads kit and the 617 took up the cases and bag

space, so if it did recieve a knock i belive it was then but i cant imagen that it did happen

it could of been very serious at all.

I'm hopeing that there is a simple explanation, but not really expecting that there is going

    to be one,

Has experianced of somthing like this?, but all suggestions will be very welcome.

    thanks in advance

  5. Hi

I have an art panorama 170 sitting in frount of me, ive only shot 3 rolls, but am really

concern about the glass screen, i know that its not the origional, its just a flat peice of

ground glass. i cant see any way of keeping it in place in the camera for focusing am i

being really stupid or am i missing a part of the camera?. or does the glass that comes

with the camera attach somehow?. thanks in advance Joe

  6. hi, thanks for taking the time to look, i have an epson 3000 colour printer that i have

never used (was given it free as the person didnt want it anymore) i have tried

printing on the printer and it prints but no black or yellow appear in the prints, the

black cartridge is almost full and the yellow still has a bit left (both cartriges are 3

years out of date) i have treid cleaning the heads numerous times. the printer i belive

was not used for about 2 years is there an easy fix?, is this a commen problem when

a printer is not used for a long time?, I am asking as i plan to sell it on ebay and want

to check that is in full working order so that i can state so in the listing, basicly what

do i do to get the ink flowing (if its possible). thanks in advance

  7. have a look at the work of Nick knight. www.showstudio.com is a website that he co-

founded and gives insite into his creative process(you will have to look for it, watch

the shoot film in the live section to start, and see the final images) ,he is a very

interesting photographer whos work is very highly reguarded he shoots numerous

campagnes for companies such as dior, he shot the 2004 pirellei calender (which i

was lucky enought to see parts of it happen, as he works at the same studios as me

only he has a "slightly" better job!), and also shoots editorials for high end fashion e.g

    vogue. good luck

  8. For tomorrow where i will be reshooting one element of an image in a studio i have:

    Bag: billingham 445

    nikon fm3a,

    nikon md12,

    fuji s2 pro,

    nikon 28-70 2.8,

    nikon 28 2.8 AI,

    mamiya rz pro 2 with 110mm 2.8,

seconic meter to top it off,

    cable releases,

    lens cloths and,

    lots of kodak e100g (120),

lots of fuji velvia 100 (135),

and 2 rolls of ilford delta 100,

  9. I recently added a fuji s2 to my camera collection and have so far had 3 lenses for it

    (tokina 28-70 2.6, nikon afs 28-70 2.8 and a nikon 24-85 2.8-4) and none of these

are what i am looking for, none of them are wide enought and both of the 28-70's

are too big for the fuji (based on a N80/F80). and the 24-85 is not wide enought and

i think that its really ugly and i dont like external zooming lenses.

i think that i may have found the perfect lens the nikon 17-55 2.8 Dx it fits on the

fuji nicely and it is exactly the range i wanted (when mounted on the S2 its widest

    postition is 25.5 mm.

What i need to know is has anyone had any experiance using the lens. with or without

a teleconverter, because it is quite an expensive lense and will be the only one that i

will buy for my digital system for a while.

Sorry if this is a badly written "question" i am just looking for conformation from a

user that i am not about to waste my limited cash on a ?1300 lens that is not the best

    that there is

  10. i have the same camera and lens at the minute (althought i will be returning the lens

when the nikon 17-55 2.8 i ordered arrives) and i have found that when focusing on

anything other than a well lit scene where focus is likley to be infinity is just

infuriating, i have now given up in using the AF and have deided to just MF all the

time (probebly best for me as i also shoot a nikon fm3a- MF and a mamiya RZ pro2-

    very MF) - joe

  11. Hi, i recently bought a fuji s2 pro and asked here about a lens to go with it the 28-70

was my first choice but i couldnt afford it at the time so i bought the tokina equivilant

from jacobs in london luckily they agreed to take the lens back for a refund (minus

10%). i think that i will take it back as i dont think that the lense is a good performer.

from my last post about which lens to buy, the 24-120 was suggested and it looks

like a very appealing lens for the tiny price tag. i normally would ignore this lens

because its lack of aperture ring (my other nikon is a fm3a) and external zooming

and slow speed but this lense seems worth a look. my main concerns about the lense

are the build quality, and weather the vr technology will be a big battery drain. so all

advice regarding the 24-120 and the 28-70 2.8 would be great. also please feel free

to recomend any other lens (nikon or not) that would be a good all rounder until i can

afford to build up a af collection of Af. thanks in advance -joe

  12. fuij s2, got mine last week (my first ever digital) WOW! for the money i dont think that

anything could beat it. the images are much better than i could have expected from

digital, for most of the time i shoot my mamiyas rz pro 2 so i am used to very high

quality, not that the s2 comes anywhere even close, but it is capable of

fantastic imaging. plus the s2 has a p.c sync and 100 iso settings something that the

nikons dont. good luck with your photography -Joe

  13. Hi, i have just recived my mamiya rz67 winder 2 (used) and i cant get it to work. i

have put in fresh batteries and it does nothing. i then tried attaching to my pro2 body

still nothing, i pressed the start button and still nothing. do i have to do somthing on

the camera to engadge the winder?, is the winder busted?. thanks in advance for your

    help -joe

  14. I just took the plunge on ebay and bought a fuji s2. I had wanted a dslr for a while

and when i was offered a job being the photographer for a high school prom (only my

second paid job that wasnt studio assisting) i decided that i could buy one. At the

moment my 35mm kit is all ai glass and i understand that this will not meter with the

fuji. so i need a af lense and will only be able to afford one high quality lense at first. i

had a quick look at the Nikon 28-70/F2.8 AF-S would this make a sutable lense for

indoor group portraiture and a all round lense until i can get another. does anyone

have a suggestion of a good third party lense. Thanks alot in advance -joe

  15. the only way into high end advertising photography is assisting. i am still at college

so have not really done much work as a photographic assistant (but am hoping to in

the future), i work part time as a studio assistant at london studios that does

anything from a car manufactures new range to doing this years pirelle calender.

From what i have heard from all the photographers and assistant that i have got the

chance too talk to is, just get in to your choosen genre of photography at any level

that you can, it doesnt matter that you will be cleaning up coffee cups or sweeping

    the

floors, if you talk to the right people and are being seen to be doing everything you

possibly can to make their shoot easier, then you will have the chance to assist. also

you might just be able too call/email photographers but from what i understand you

would be quite unlikly to get much work this way as there are already alot of assistant

s out there. hope this helps -j

  16. im not quite a pro but i had a carl zeiss jena 28-300 nikon f mount, i had never seen

anything like it before so bought it very quick and went around central london and

shot 5-6 rolls with it. the range of focal is amazing if i ever wanted to travel light this

was the lense. when i processed the film the black and whote were fine but the E-6

was very yellow so i returned it the next day but if i had the chance i would buy one

again so much better than carrying 5 or 6 lenses if you dont need specific lenses for a

    certain shot. -joe

  17. I had a similar situation on ebay uk when i won a brand new polaroid back for my

mamiya rz for £55 the seller had 99.9% feedback and a score of about 130 he had

been a member of ebay for 2-3 years, i paid promptly and recived an email from the

seller to conferm that i had paid and he would post the item the next day with 24

hour delivery. anyway i waited about 3 days for the item to show up and it didnt so i

wrote to him and he replied saying he was a busy photographer and was sorry he had

forgotten to post it and he would do it the next day. Again i wait and it never turns up

(i waited a whole week to mail him as i assumed that he was just busy and would post

it soon). when i very wrote him a angry email explaining that i had to rent a back for 2

days and it had cost me money. his reply came a few days later, he was very sorry

about everything and explained that he had recenly developed a mental health issue

that prevented him from visiting post offices. I just didnt know what to think everyone

that i told found it very funny and all came to the conclusion that it was untrue. in the

end his wife posted me the money back. the experiance really put me off ebay for a

while. Max i really hope that your lense turns up- joe

  18. Now this is getting silly, film will be out of production 3,5,10 years. the vast majority

of MF film sold is to pros. the vast majority of digital cameras are sold to consumers.

a busy pro will shoot a few hundred rolls in a day, a ameture ( I know my spelling is

crap, SORRY) armed with a MF camera will probely on average may shoot a propack a

week or less (very sorry if have under estimated). now althought some pros are

buying into digital most will be dslr's and their application will be one that is not

replacing a medium format system. I dont know all the figures about MF film sales

and i dont frankly care, but if my thinking is right medium format film will only really

start to wind down when a digital back will produce a better image than MF for the

same price over time and reqire a low initial investment. - Joe

  19. cheers guys, im still undecided as to how to go about buying, i like the idea of an old

50mm. Eric- i see your point about spending the money on lenses but my nikon

outfit already has 4 very nice AI, and i dont want to buy anymore lenses for my

mamiya rz pro 2 kit as i am better of renting when i need a specialist lense.-Joe
