    The poet's meal

love the idea! Only thing that would work even better for me is a little more zoom and the camera more level! This is a great composition I would be very interested to see this in watercolor (either by a pc program or by a painter!) I would also give some peripheral lighting (not much) maybe 2 more candles right and left outside the photograph. Good work!

This is a cute classic! Love how the black in the background is pitch black. Crisp photo with 2 points of interest: the older girl in the middle coming ahead from the others (movement) and the little lost one (there is always one in the bunch!) in the lower right corner.
  1. Love the reflection, well-timed shutter capture and crisp resolution. What more to ask for a nature photo ;) Only thing I would like is the use of a good circular polarizer to get the black of the back and red of the legs less washed out (taking out some light reflection angles) and thus a more saturated/contrasty feel there. god work/

A true classic, like I've said in past comments your style represents very well the French school of photography - as in this photograph. I find your photos that combine emptyness with rich simplicity a form of beauty that is classic. In this photo although the man is the centerpiece and the rest of the photograph is pretty much empty I can't seem to get my eyes of it as if you have included dozens of other subjects. And truly the combination of light and dark, the atmosphere, the reflection and the blurred building in the background give an extremely lyric tone and these multiple subtle details grab my continued attention. Bravo!

The sepia works well here in avoiding otherwise dull colors and emphasizing on the geometry and shapes as well as increasing the visibility of the tones. Good photograph.

Well one thing you should avoid is the black background as above. Black is primarily used for making a thin frame in color photography -to help color stand out- and as a backgound it can be used with ease mainly in Black and White. The classic way of using a black background (or white) is with a sheet (bed-sheet will do) that is attached to a wall and curves progressivelly downwards as for someone to be able to even step on its tip lying on the floor. This gives a feeling of depth because of the curvature and the light/flash tones of the background are also recorded wonderfully giving a natural feel. Photoshop is a great tool but some of these things it cannot substitute. Only deep knowledge of Photoshop can help reach an authentic looking background. But if you insist to experiment three tools can be of use 1. The gradient tool (where the bucket is) can give shades in the background -Select two colors i.e black and white -shades- and 2) Lighting in the filter section and 3)The brush (learn masks and opacity) under color mode -this can be used to color over an existing background not only with colors but with black and white too). Nevertheless these tools need experience and some study to get a professional look. If you have time give them a look but classic methods are the sheet and natural light -i.e window light- because direct flash light can be flat while window light can give many tones depending on the window, the angle of the sun, the type of day outside, distance from window as well as size of window. Hope this helped, Peter.

Your photo appears too small in the rate recent and one cannot see what good photo this is without enlarging -write a note to enlarge before rating-

Your photo caught my attention. After viewing it carefully, I realized that what I liked so much is the perfect framing. The depth is stunning and gives me a feeling of tranquility. Most importantly, your photograph is composed of many interesting sections including almost all 4 elements -earth, air, water, and, *maybe the girl is fire*. To be precise I recognized five distinct sections: 1) The sky -air- 2) The sea -water- 3) The beach -earth- 4) The girl -fire- and 5)the misty section w/ the buildings/vegetation all along the coast. This is wonderful photo that is correctly enhanced with the use of Sepia that goes so well with these types of photos that have depth...6/7

    Common sandpiber

Usually these type of pictures are common and boring but your photo really captures my attention. The main reasons for this are: 1) The sandpiver's pose 2) The excellent blurring of foreground and background 3) The detail in general and in particular the detail of the grass and small flowers where the bird is 'probing' for food.

In contrast to this photo many other wildlife pictures despite the interesting subject have nothing to show in the background -usually sky or water- giving a more strict/technical/academic/biological feel than a creation of photograhic art in mind as this is. Good job 6/6

I somehow feel that most people that critiqued -or better to say rated because I have no critiques so far- this photo thought it was a classic PS manipulated touristy vacation ad... Actually this photo has 0% manipulation. I am sad to see that it has under average ratings with no escorting comments to help me improve. I expected at least higher aesthetics and not 3.75. THEN AGAIN I REALIZE WHAT A GOOD PHOTO THIS IS BECAUSE IT GIVES THE OPTICAL ILLUSSION OF BEING MANIPULATED IN SOME WAY...thank the island of Leukada in Greece for that...Odysea's (or Ulysee's) home -according to new excavations-)
