Thanks Jason and Dave! Great suggestion Dave and luckily this is a tight crop from a larger picture (having great fun with all of the extra pixels from my new 5D...possibly a little carried away) so your suggestion is completely doable. Im working on the proofs tonight so I'll have to re-think the crop on this one.

Thanks Gungajim! I was really on the fence on this one and I had a feeling that I would get mixed reactions to it. I wasnt sure if I should leave it in the proofs for Mom to see and I think with the ratings I received that I will definately let them look at it to see if it "speaks" to them. It is pretty consistant with style the mother seemed to like in examples.

Thanks Doug and Sarah! That is exactly what I was thinking!! I got some other great shots of mom with the baby so I'm not upset that this didn't work out well, I just know better for next time. This little sweetie was wide awake and completely alert and wiggly the whole two hours I had him so I was way more limited than with a sleeping newborn which made me re-think alot of my normal shots. Thanks again.

Thanks guys! Emily, I am actually not having to dodge out much anymore. I am (finally) getting better at getting the lighting ratios for the background and the subject right at the shooting (after a LOT of practice). The only thing I am dodging/cloning now is some of the floor droop when it is smudged from dirt. Paper rolls are about $70 here so I use them until they are pretty grungy before I cut them. I am using two lights on the backdrop and two on the subject and moving the subject farther away from the backdrop (5 feet). (by the way, I call this border, the Emily border)

Thank you all so much. Bobby we must think alike because I took out the second catchlight in the final edit of this before I showed his mom (not that she would have noticed, but it's a OCD thing). I was wondering if the main catchlight might be a bit large. I may need to back up my main light just a tad.
