  1. In Guangzhou International Airport, I had all my film visual inspection. I placed all my film in a zip-lock bag. All check-in luggages need to be bounded with a yellow band (+/-05 inch or 20mm wide).

In Singapore I requested for visual inspection also and custom did not give me any problems.

  2. Dear Mei Ling,

In Indonesia, you can find B/W chemical in Kota area. No darkroom chemicals could be found in south Jakarta. Probably the best place to buy chemical for darkroom is at Pasar Baru. This place is a run down mall that sells darkroom chemicals, camera, lighting, backdrops and film. You may also try Primacolor and Octagon. E-mail when you are in Jakarta and we can exhange information and talk about photography as I mainly shoot in B/W with Leica M7.

For professional B/W photo lab, Prima Lab, Prism Lab, Mata Kita are are some of the labs I bring my film for developing and process

Overall, developing and processing is inexpensive in Jakarta. A 8x10" contact sheel cost less than $1.50 and a "Jumbo" contact sheet at 11x 17" or A3 size cost +/-$5.00.

E-mail should you need additional information and let me know when you are in town.

    Regards,

    Kevin

  3. Scott,

I visit Bali once a year and currently I am residing in Jakarta. I normally stay in Nusa Dua area. Conrad Hotel just opened this summer and are having discounted rates. I paid a little more than USD100.00 per night.

Bali has many things to offer: temples, temples and temples. Kuta beach is another fun place to take pictures of the locals. Bali also have one of the best golf course in SE Asia. You can also hire a car and driver for +/-$35.00 per day.

How long are you planning to stay in Bali? Hope the above helps, e-mail me if you need addition information about Bali.

  4. I will be visiting Guangzhou, China and I will be taking my Leica

equipment. I have visited Beijing Road in Guangzhou last year. but

did not find any good camera or film (black and white) store.

However, I found a small shop near White Swan hotel that sold stobes,

tripods and other camera accessories. If anyone have any information

where to shop for camera and film, please forward information.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Currently I am living in Indonesia and I have Leica, Nikons, Canons and other electrical devices. The temperture in Indonesia and in SE Asia is +/-90F and humidity is very high. When I first moved to Indonesia, I purchased a small dry box (probably two shoe box size) and I had to replace the blue dessicant every 2-3 months and it became a big chore. As a result, I bought a 3 feet (H) by 2 feet (W) electrical dry box. The dry box is made of steel on all sides and can be use for a safe. Now all my camera and electrical devices are safe from the hight humidity. Now I can have vacation for three weeks to one month without worrying about my camera having fungus. I would suggest buying a steel dry box for your camera and electronic products.

When I am traveling in SE Asia, I place my camera bodies and lens in separate plastic bags with dessicant. When I am ready to shoot, I take my bodies and lens 30 minutes prior to shooting to ensure all my equipment has no condensation.

    Regards,

    Kev

  6. Dear Forum members,

I want to thank everyone who contributed to my enquiry regarding flash technique with Nikon F100 and SB-28 flash. I was ready to try and reshoot at another wedding fair/expo that had a fashion show, but I was told that cameras were not allowed. I called the hotel ahead, but they were not sure if photography was allowed. I had all my camera gear (tripod, camera, flash, films, etc). I was very disappointed. I will try to shoot in another wedding fair next month and kept everyone informed. Anyway, many thanks to everyone.

    Regards,

  7. Dear Forum members,

I am an amateur photographer and photography is my hobby. Last week

I attended a wedding fashion show and shot 3 rolls of ASA 400 film

in a hotel ballroom (least 20 feet high ceiling) setting with stage

lighting. However, when I got my contact prints back, 65% of my

shots were underexposed or had dark deep shadows (partial stage

    lighting)

    My equipment I used:

    Nikon F100

    Nikon SB28 Flash with bracket

    SC-17 cable

    Nikon lens 80-200 ED, F 2.8

    Sto-fen (45 deg tilt)

The result of the contact sheets

2 rolls of Fuji NPH Underexposed

    Kodak Extrachrome slides: Underexposed -orange

All my shots were hand held (no tripod) with camera settings:

Program and flash setting at 3-D Matrix. The flash on the side made

taking horizontal pictures difficult because of the unbalanced

    weight.

The models came out very fast which I had no time adjusting my

camera settings; just enough time to reload film. The stage was

probably 35 feet away and the models paraded down the aisle less

than 8 feet way from me. As a result, deciding which GN and

adjusting the setting was virtually impossible.

I read in this forum that I should use Aperture-Priority with 3-D

Matrix setting for the flash. Is this correct?

I forgot to mention that I have most basic equipment for photography

such as a grey card and light meter. Should I use a light meter

since most of my models were wearing white? Probably using a light

meter was not appropriate since the stage lighting were not lit

until the models paraded down the runway. May be I should of moved

closer to the stage / models where the lighting or foot candles were

much greater. Most shot were focused.

I would appreciate if someone can suggest or recommend the settings

for the above situation as I will attend another shooting this

    weekend.

  8. I need some comments or advice regarding the "FilterView" product.

I read the older forum threads on FilterView but not sure anybody

from this forum is satisfied with the FilterView product.

I have over dozen color B+W filters and Hoya's for black and white,

sizes ranging from 77mm and 72mm. I also have some 52mm circular

    polarizers.

I recently purchased a Leica M7 and I want to use these filters for

my Leica lens for filter sizes 39mm and 46mm. Any comments would

    be highly appreciated.

Thanks and I look forward to your comments.

  10. To Pierre and Chisso, thank you for your constructive input to my previous post. I will check out Kaffee Photo when time permits (traffic and work). But the way, I buy my most of my film and some equipment at Pasar Baru in Kota. Pasur Baru is a run-down mall which stock variety of films and camera equipment. Also, I develop my colors prints at a professional lab called, "Aneka Gaya". They are also in Kota. They do good work, but as usual in Indonesia you need to keep an eye on them.

    Once again, thank you.

  11. I am expatriate from San Francisco currently residing in Jakarta,

Indonesia. I have been living in SE Asia for over 7 years and would

like to have coffee with any Leica fans in Jakarta. I speak alittle

bahasa Indonesia. I live in South Jakarta, near Pondah Indah Mall or

    Jakarta Indonesia School.

    I recently purchased a M7 with 50mm f/2.0 Summ. Iwould like to

discuss about techniques, filters and good prices to buy Leica

assessories in SE Asia. Please reply to this post should you be

interested. I am a friendly, woody and easy person. Thanks for

    reading this post.

  12. I am a new member to this forum. Recently, I purchased a M7 with

50mm f/2.0 Summicron (39mm). I want to shoot black and white and

color. I am in the market for screw type B+W filters and I am

alittle confused on the linear or circular polorizers filters. I

read on this forum that a linear would be suitable for a rangefinder

because of the split focusing. Any recommendation would be

    appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.
