  1. Thanks

Thank you all for those helpful notes.

Dan, I have found out there is ponly one way the GG can be placed

Andre, Yes, I bought the Beattie screen because I thoughtthe problem was with my eyes not seeing so well. I have had same issue with former glass. I'll look Koh site and may go thereif they are anywhere near LA where I'll be visiting in two days

Gene, I ma ahead of you and yes, my eyes are not whatthey have been

Ivan. I have done what yuo have suggested but in stead of doing it on film I have taken Andre advice and place the original GG at the film plain - it seems like there is a discreptancy but I'll double check on film

Manoj, you are right, that's what I have done last film which prompted this thread.

Thanks ou all very very much. It always so meaningful the help I can trust to get here even if my visits are so far appart

  2. Hi

Its very frustrating. I see images shot by other forum membes and they

are very sharp - mine aren't sharp at all even though I seem to focus

accuratly on the screen, stop down the lens to a point that every

thing should be in sharp focus and in . As a result I find myself

avoiding using my Bronica as much as I can.

Lenses seems fine and the body I bought new 2-3 years ago so its fine

too. I always shoot iton a good tripod. The only things I can think

that coulkdbe wrong is the film pain and the Beattie ground glass

focusing screen are not at same distance from the lens. Questions:

    1. is there any adjustment on distance of film pain relative to lens

    2. what side should be the rough (frosted) side of the viewing glass.

Your reply to these questions may be very helpful. Any other thoughtor

    idea will be welcome too

  3. Thank you all so very much. It has been a great help though I still don't know where to go. There is one more thing that I thought possible and that is using other brand lenses. As far as I know there are no adapters made for the Bronica SQ. Does anyone know something to the contrary?
  4. I am rethinking my gear. This includes a thought about adding a large

format field camera that is restrictive for longer lenses. I own a

Bronica SQai w 3 lenses longest is 150 and a 2X tele converter which I

use. I am wondering if I should get a 250 lens and use it with the 2X

or sell all my Bronica gear and go for another brand with longer

lenses. I need it for focusing on details that are not that far off

such as brunch structure of a moderately distant tree (but no wilde

life) and I am using it also to highlight a detail (flower, sculpture

etc.)on a very short DOF with blared background. I think both are

doable with 400-500mm lens - single or with tele converter.

Question is for those who are familiar with the Bronica as well as

other long lenses: will I get substentially better/sharper images with

a different camera and lenses that will relatively reasonable also

    economically.

    ?

  5. I need to get a used camera and lens that will not exceed $1000, will

be a camera I may grow with it for at least 5-7 years, and will be a

joy to work. I need it for divers use including landscape,

architecture, still life objects and details of the above that are

often too far for normal lens.

It could be either a relatively light (& most important easy to pack)

rail camera or a field camera. I have a slight preference to a rail

camera for its longer rail and lower price. I was thinking along the

lines of Cambo NX (looks heavy), linhof kardan color, or other

reasonably priced full feature and rigid. For a field camera the Shen

Hao is the only one I know that is reasonably priced, longer than 12"

    bellow and near full movements.

I would like to hear opinions and ideas of people who have used these

cameras or have other ideas as to where best I should go

  6. Thank you David for the tip re. the 200 and the costy repair. Your initial coment why did't I return it when arrived is a good one too and a bit of story - too long for this forum but at its base it was a matter of not trusting myself and trying to achieve the promisseed results over and over again icluding e-mail exchanges with the seller. but at this point this issue is not too relevant.

    thanks again

  7. Ken, Thank you much. You are right in tems of the shocking discovery of how short is the DOF but I agree with Andre and Huib that this is not the issue here. I am curious about your 200 and will send you an e0mail. If your e-mail is notavailable here would you please mail me your address to ruvy@012.net.il. Thanks

Andre and Huib, Thank you too. Apparently this is the case. Set on trypod with mirror locked it doesn't produce a sharp image. Do you have any idea what can be done about it?

  8. Few month ago I have bought a 150 lens. Found out it has a very short

DOF and will rarely produce a sharp horizon regardles if when the f

stop includes infinity in the range or even when set the lens is

focused dead on infinity. A camera store have checked and found it has

a problem but couldn't tell me what it is. Calling to two labs one

told me that the lens can be adjusted but will cost $80 to do so and

the other told me there is no fixing to it. Questions are:

    1. are the 150PS known as sharp and contrasy lenses or wil I be better

    of with a 200S

    2. have anyone experienced simmilar problem and found a solution?

    Thanks

  9. I am new here and not ure if it is custom to thank but you advices are much appreciated. I have ruled out the Kieve (even though the shift tilt lens is very very attractive for me) and probably will go with the Bronica. I have considered also the Rollei 6006 but there is no service for them here so this one was ruled out too

    thanks again

  10. I am new to the medium format on my way there from digital slr (D30).

This post is about how things feel and not about features.

I Have read a lot of past postings and reviews here and other places and

for the 6X6 format that attracts me most there are really only two real

slr's that makes also economic sens. Kieve 88 and bronica sq series. It

seems that the price advantage, availability of lenses, range of lenses

(focal point) etc. are in favor of the Kiev yet, from mechanical point of

view, reliability and usage of flash and resale value the advantage goes to

Bronica. (any correction to the statments above will be most

    appreciated).

All these issues I should be able to sort out somehow by myself in view

of my photographic objectives but there is a question I can't and this is

the feel of those cameras. Where I live there are no rentals of

photographic gear of this sort so I have to ask it here.

This post is directed to people who used both the Kiev and the Bronica

(at home, studio in camera stor or outdoor) asking how each feels in

your hands, how well it function relatively to each other, what made you

change your mind one way or another etc. all will be very helpful in my

    procesece from digital to mf.

    Thank you much
