1.
Bumping this thread. I shot with a Contax Aria for a while before I went digital and I want to start shooting a little 35 and using my lenses again. My Aria was put through daily pro use a few years ago. It's got some film advance issues and with a tet roll it seems that everything I shot at 1.4 is focused just a tad behind the actual focal point.

Looking at RTS3/RX/ST all online. Not sure what to get still, I may just grab a Contax 139 or something for the interim, but I do want ttl with my tla360.

Any Contax users still on the forums?

  2.
A few years ago I won a set of quadtone inks for my Epson r300(I also won the 300 and the inks at the same conference I won the 1400 at, I's been lucky at them door prize drawings). Personally I thought it was a waste of time.
With my 2200 and Epson's matte paper and matte black ink I got wonderful B&W results. I also liked that the 2200 could print on roll paper as I do some panoramas, but 13" roll paper isn't easy to find in matte finish.
Anyhow, I have tried replacing the cartridge but to no avail. I opened up the 1400 tonight as I had to make some prints for a freelance job I have to deliver tomorrow, it seems to do a wonderful job.

  3.
I found this thread looking for info on how to calibrate a Kiev 4 I just got. Paid $30 for the thing with a 50 1.8. I have a Contax 2a but the shutter flung and I just use film for fun and personal art work, I'm not fixing it.
Test roll from the Kiev looks great! No light leaks and the sharpness is just as good as my Contax, and I shot with both the Russian Helios lens and my Zeiss Jena 50. I honestly think the Russian lens may have more clarity but I didn't shoot the same subject/situation for comparison. The only problem is the rangefinder is a little off, at infinity it bumps a little too far. But it's bright and clear, I think it's a hell of deal.
Also gotta say it, my primary camera is a Nikon D3s, sorry but the old stuff is 50 year old technology and not practical for professional use, so it's all for fun. Just had to throw that out there after reading the comments about haters on the Leica forum. I think if you could grab any modern camera and transport back 60 years and hand it to HCB he'd be so thrilled he would wet himself.

  4.
I have an Epson 2200 and I've had it for a few years. I have gotten great results over time, I love the way B&W prints turn out with matte ink and paper, and I've tried the quadtone thing in my R300.

Anyhow, the yellow ink no longer flows. Stopped 2 weeks ago. Then last week I went to a conference and won a brand new Epson 1400! UPS dropped it off today and it's still in the box.
So should I sell it and fix my 2200 or is this an improvement? I am curious as I know it has different type inks and doesn't have matte ink.

  5. ^Exactly. I don't want to carry a bunch of stuff, I am used to lugging a bag around and I work 6 days a week. This trip will come right after March madness is over and I need a break from work, but I'll be touring Italy and I don't want to be unable to get some nice images.

If you thought I was wasting your time, why bother responding. Troll.

  6. I care more about results than anything else. I like simple cameras, and the g9 size is appealing. I have a D2X now. The biggest problem I've read about with both of these is noise. I like the fact that the panasonic has a ring for manual focus, and I don't have to order another attachment to add on lenses and filters. I like the smaller size of the G9, and I like the viewfinder I can just look through instead of a digital one. The lens in the way isn't a problem, I've shot with rangefinders enough to deal with anything and can use my left eye along with right to compose.
  7. I am a professional photographer and know how to shoot. I am looking for a

camera to take along on a trip I'm going on in a month. I am used to a Nikon D2X

and owna Canon G3 I converted to IR a couple years ago.

I am going to get either a Canon G9 or a Panasonic DMC-FZ50K. Can anyone give me

    advice on the two?

    David

  8. I have a set of those slaves. He paid too much for shipping though. Search for flash triggers on the bay and you'll find a bunch of sellers with them. You can get extra recievers also, and fire multible flashes. I rigged mine to pc cords so I can plug them into 283s. I plan to set one up with a hacked cable switch to fire a remote camera before long too.
